Porsche CEO officially confirms continued development of the 718 EV.
Now, regarding the next-generation all-electric Porsche 718 series, which at one point was even rumored to have been canceled, Porsche CEO Michael Leiters has now released a statement completely dispelling those rumors.
Michael is a German newspaper (Frankfurter Allgemeine ZeitungIn an interview, he commented that development of the electric vehicle 718 is continuing, and that it will be the best economic option and a great car.
While few details have been revealed yet, the fact that Porsche's CEO has stated that development of the 718 EV is continuing suggests that the 718 EV will almost certainly be released.
The Taycan will continue to be sold for the time being.
Also in the same interview, when asked "When do you plan to discontinue the underperforming Taycan?", Michael Leiters replied that streamlining the model does not necessarily mean discontinuing the entire model series.
They explained that streamlining a model doesn't mean eliminating the entire model series, but rather streamlining the grades and variations.
Porsche is already making progress in this area, and plans to further reduce the number of Taycan models and revise the complexity of its lineup.
They also stated that there are no plans to discontinue the Taycan in the short term.
The reason given is that Porsche has invested heavily in the Taycan and wants to closely monitor demand trends. Well, that makes sense...
So, it seems unlikely that the Taycan will disappear anytime soon, but since we don't know what "in the short term" refers to, we can't rule out the possibility that development of the next Taycan won't take place and that this will be the end of it.
Even within companies like Porsche and Volkswagen, plans for the near future are likely to change, so it's really hard to say.
At least from what the CEO of Porsche AG stated in this interview, it has been officially confirmed that development is continuing toward the arrival of the 718 Cayman EV and 718 Boxster EV.
I wonder if they'll announce the timing of the announcement at Capital Markets Day on October 7th, 2026?
