The other day, some college students that they know from America came to Japan to visit, and my eldest daughter is also their friend, so she took them along to hang out with them (even though we are Japanese, my eldest daughter was getting to hang out with everyone in Japan ^^), and during that time, they apparently had to travel around Tokyo by taxi.
My eldest daughter had never called a taxi herself, so the American college students called an Uber taxi for her. The driver was wearing white gloves, and even though there were five of them, they were all able to get in, which was amazing, my eldest daughter said.
I myself rarely use taxis (I'm not very good at it...), so I didn't really understand, but I thought, "Wow, that's pretty amazing."
...That happened just a few days ago.
On a different note, I've been seeing a certain unusual car more and more recently.
Here is it.
This car is often parked in places I pass by frequently, and every time I see it I always wonder, "It doesn't look like a car used for Google Street View or anything, and it's a little different from other cars used for maps, so what is it?"
No matter how much I thought about it, I couldn't figure it out, and even after a quick search I couldn't find anything, so I became so curious about it that I couldn't help it...and then, today, I came across this vehicle again.
I had no choice but to ask! So I asked the driver of the car directly.
"Excuse me, what is this car doing?"
The answer was "We are testing self-driving cars." I was convinced, "Oh, self-driving cars!" but I still had some questions, so I asked, "What self-driving cars are they?" and they told me, "They're Uber self-driving cars."
Wow!!
Uber is also testing self-driving cars in Tokyo. I didn't know that!
Before,I saw a self-driving taxi in San Francisco.But I wonder if the day will come when we see a car like that in Japan.
First of all, my doubts were cleared and I felt refreshed.
It was a few days when I had many interesting thoughts about Uber.
I've never even done a food delivery before, but if self-driving Uber ever starts in Japan, I'd like to try it out (even though it's still a little scary)!
