Non-waterproof smartphone, recovery from submersion

Posted: Posted:

Huawei P30 lite sinks in water ...

Well, this blog has nothing to do with Porsche, cars, or anything. But I was so impressed that I would like to write it.

I hope it will be of some help to anyone in the future.

As you can see from the title, we were able to "completely revive a non-waterproof smartphone even though it was completely submerged", so I would like to write about the history of this miracle ^^

It happened on January 2nd, exactly as early as the beginning of 2021.

It was an event while I was enjoying my first camper experience. When I was enjoying a footbath in Gero Onsen Gassho Village, Gifu PrefectureThat is.

There was a time when the children were alone in the footbath, so when I approached it.

"It's pretty hot, but it feels good ~"

While saying that, if you suddenly look at the feet of the children's feet in the hot water, you can see something glittering at the bottom of the footbath.

"Hmm? What is that?"

The moment I said, I understood. "Wow, that's not my (second daughter's) smartphone !!!"

That's right, it seems that my second daughter had dropped her smartphone to the bottom of the footbath, but she was laid back without even noticing it ... As a result, she was soaked in the footbath and was in a good mood at the bottom of the hot water.

Nope.

Because the smartphone I gave to my child was already decided by the price, "It's cheap, so it's okay" (← terrible (laughs)), so it's a model called Huawei's P30 light that has no waterproof function.

I want to revive my smartphone somehow

A smartphone without a waterproof function for a few minutes? Since I was in the footbath (= hot water), I can only think that this is dead, but high, of course, I only think about things positively, so I said, "Maybe it will be revived with no use." Believing in the revival of smartphones, I decided to do what I could. Don't run away, don't run away, don't run away (meaning unknown (laughs)).

First, scoop up from hot water, take the case you were wearing, and dry everything you can see with a towel. Anyway, I was careful:

  • Never turn on the power
  • Do not charge

It is two points. I thought it would end when I turned on the power, so I kept it so that I wouldn't press the button to turn on my smartphone, and carried it to my house.

Submerged smartphones should be naturally dried with a desiccant.

After looking at various information on the internet, I arrived at "Put a submerged smartphone with a desiccant in a zip lock and leave it for a while." (Sorry, I wanted to include the source information, but I was impatient and read various sites, so I don't know).

After I got home, I put the silica gels that I could find in the house together with the submerged smartphone, and left it in the shadow, being careful not to press the power switch again.

I didn't know how many days it should be left, but I just wanted the inside of the smartphone to dry, so I just left it alone.

It looks like this ... ↓

It's been about 3 weeks since I started leaving it with this desiccant, so I thought it would be good if it was 3 weeks ... Finally!

I decided to turn on the power.

Take your smartphone out of the zip lock ... I'm afraid, I'm afraid, I'll press the power button.

Then ... ah ah ah.

arrived! !! !! !! I got it. smartphone.

However, because "the battery is almost empty" and "it will be shut down after 30 seconds", I was impressed with "a miracle! I got it!" And left me alone, and my smartphone ran out after 30 seconds.

But if it's submerged and broken, it shouldn't be powered like this in the first place.

That means that if you charge it, it will be completely revived, right? So, from here, it's finally charging with a positive and cheerful feeling. Charging for the first time in 3 weeks.

After the time it would have been fully charged, try again.

When you turn on the power ... Ah. The character of HUAWEI that came out. Welcome back! !!

And a splendid revival.

When I unlocked the lock screen, I could clearly see that "it was January 2nd that I was submerged", and my second daughter has revived with the smartphone image changed to New Year's mode.

Hmmm, it feels like the time has stopped on January 2nd for this smartphone only (laughs)! Thank you for your resurrection, I think it's just a miracle! !!

So, was it good because it was a hot spring in Gero Onsen? (I don't think that's the case (laughs)), but even though I was submerged in the hot springs for a few minutes, the non-waterproof smartphone was completely revived. Impressed.

Summary of how to revive a submerged smartphone

Last but not least, all I've done this time is:

  • When you take it out of the water, first remove the case etc., and then towel dry where you can wipe it.
  • Never turn on the power
  • Never charge
  • I don't dry it with a hair dryer or forcibly give it heat.
  • 4-5 silica gels (desiccants) in Minigrip? Put a smartphone with and seal it
  • Leave it in a cool and dark place in your house (even though it is not overheated and on a table that is not exposed to direct sunlight in the room)
  • After leaving it for 3 weeks, turn on the power

The revival of the smartphone this time was an event that seemed like a miracle, so I was really impressed.

When my smartphone woke up, I felt like I was told, "Hmm? The hot springs felt good? Gero hot springs felt so good that I fell asleep for a long time."

I'm really glad you woke up.

* By the way, I get a guarantee of several hundred yen every month, but does it cost 10,000 yen if it is submerged? It was something like that, so I tried to do my best (laughs).

It was good. If someone in the same situation comes in the future, I think it would be a good idea to try this desiccant method at the wrong place.

By the way, it's been about 5 days since I confirmed the resurrection, but it's working normally enough to forget that it was submerged without any problems.

A miracle will happen ^^
