Porsche: Porsche ◆ My beloved black carrera (991.2)

Do you know PVC drift?

Steady circle turning practice event sponsored by Porsche Club Utsunomiya

For me, it was the third time for me to participate in the regular circle turning practice @ Tsukuba Circuit Gymkhana field sponsored by Porsche Club Utsunomiya.

I participated in early September 2022.

I've been so busy that I haven't been able to upload a blog for a while, so I'm talking about more than two months ago, but I had a lot of fun, so please let me write about it ^^

On this day, of course, I will be participating in my beloved black Carrera.

My favorite time with Black Carrera is when we are enjoying driving lessons together, such as regular circle practice and open space training.

Also, when I'm doing this driving lesson, it's the time when I realize, "Oh, my love for Black Carrera is still quite one-way" (laughs).

I want to get to know Black Carrera more and more, but I still don't understand Black Carrera at all.

After all, it's not enough to just say, "I love you, I love you," and while I'm thinking about things like, I don't really know what I'm talking about, one day I'll be able to understand more and more with Black Carrera. I run anyway, dreaming of coming.

Use a kitchen timer for steady circle turning practice

When practicing such stationary circles, it is often the case that a "time limit for practicing in a stationary circle" is set for each vehicle, and that time is usually 2 to 3 minutes for each vehicle.

When the preceding car leaves the stationary circle, it starts its own run, and after the set time has passed, it exits the stationary circle again and takes over to the next one.

At that time, everyone often uses a kitchen timer.

If you wear this, you can concentrate on running without glancing at the clock (PC Utsunomiya is the same, but there are many places where you can rent it).

Recently, I have fixed this kitchen timer in the car with curing tape, although it looks a little bad.

That's all there is to it, but if you're worried about the time, you can quickly check the remaining time by pressing the button at the start.

PVC Drift Experience: What is PVC Drift?

When I was waiting for my turn at the stationary circle, I suddenly looked at the cars that had left the queue.

Did you get a flat tire?

"What are you doing?"

There is something mysterious lying next to the car.

Yes, this is a ring-shaped PVC (polyvinyl chloride) that was intended to be attached to the rear wheel of a car.

No, yeah, if it's normal, you don't know what you're saying.

At first, I was like, "What are you talking about?" (laughs).

As those of you who know know, yes, this is how PVC is really attached around the tire ↓

Then put the tire with the PVC back in the car and it looks like this.

*Installed only on the rear wheels & of course cannot run on public roads, just in case.

I thought it would break as soon as I ran due to the weight of the car, but I was able to run without breaking unexpectedly, probably because the road surface was properly wet (rain & water).

…But it’s so slippery, so when I run, I run slowly.

The reason why I do this is exactly as I wrote, "I can't run fast because it's too slippery", the reason is "to make it slippery".

Since the rear tire has become slippery with no grip due to this PVC, it is said that the so-called "situation similar to drifting on ice" is created.

I see! !

Many people say, "Practicing on the ice is the best way to understand the behavior of the car, so you should definitely try it on ice at least once!"

Even so, it is not so easy to actually realize running on ice.

However, since this PVC-equipped tire creates a "similar situation (environment? behavior?)", it means that you can do simulated ice training even if the ground is not frozen like this time. Put away.

Since I was allowed to drive, I was afraid to experience this PVC tire only once ^ ^

Even if it enters a steady circle and starts to turn in a circle... wow.

what's this! !

You can see that the car starts to slip even though it is not accelerating at all (I don't remember well, but it's about 20km/h?).

You have to react when you think "Ah, it's slipping!" … and yet I can’t react well.”

No, what is it?

If the car is slow, it's kind of like I'm feeling a little sluggish and my reaction is slow (laughs). are you grandma?

In such a slow situation, if I can't seem to respond to the fact that the car has started to "slip", I realize that I still don't understand the behavior of the car and how to handle it.

I'm still not good at all! It was a good experience that I understood well (laughs).

Porsche Club Utsunomiya event, it's so much fun because I can have such various experiences that I can't even imagine. Thank you as always ^^

I finally managed to drift half a circle with a black Carrera!

After the PVC drift experience, I will return to practice to be able to drift with my 911.

I would like to practice a lot, but I don't have many opportunities to be able to make a steady circle (even if I do, I can't always participate).

It's been a few months since the last practice, and there are many things that I have to start thinking, "Well, how am I going to do it?" ! !

Still, it feels like ``three steps forward, two steps back,'' and I feel like I'm moving forward a little bit each time.

In fact, at first it started from a place where I could not slide the 911 from the accelerator off, but now I can manage to slide it normally, and then the "time (distance) that continues to drift I want to extend my life.”

For the time being, my goal is to drift my 911 Carrera (base model / 991.2) for one lap of the stationary circle, but at the time of this practice, is it just barely? It is now possible to do up to "half a circle" ^ ^

If you can do it half way around, you can do it all the way if you just go half way around, right? You may think that, but the great thing about my ability is that I can't do that (Is it amazing?).

I also understand why I can't do more than half a lap this time.

From about halfway through, it feels like the car is going straight even though I'm turning the steering wheel. That's why I'm strangely turning the steering wheel too much and back.

Maybe when I'm drifting, my brain doesn't know the direction of the tires, the direction of the body, and the direction of turning the steering wheel. Are you a grandma?

However, this illusive (?) feeling is proof that I am drifting, and I was told that I might feel that way at first, so I think the future is bright and I will continue to do my best.

Here is the result of finally being able to do half a round ^ ^ ↓

As you can see from this video, I thought it would be easier to step on the accelerator with a "bum, bang, bang", but I thought it would be better, but the accelerator is as constant as possible. I would like to be conscious of that and change it in the future.

I still have a long way to go, but I will do my best to find the next opportunity to practice and aim for one lap of the 911 drift.

Everyone at Porsche Club Utsunomiya, everyone who participated on this day, thank you very much for this very meaningful and enjoyable time.

Although I am not a Porsche Club member (visitor participation) I am grateful to be able to participate in this way.

Also, if you are interested in Porsche Club Utsunomiya, including participation in such driving practice, please contact us.It seems that you can contact from Porsche Center Utsunomiya ^ ^
