Incidentally, on April 10th, it was announced that "The production of the combustion-engined Macan will continue until the summer of 2026," but in this latest earnings announcement, it was stated more clearly that "Production of the ICE Macan will end in the summer of 2026."

A rare strategy for Porsche: maximizing inventory.

Incidentally, when the announcement was made, Jochen Breckner, CFO of Porsche AG, said:

"We will produce the ICE Macan until mid-2026, and we will stock as much as we can based on the supplier parts we have, and then we will sell these cars."

In other words, Porsche, which usually gradually reduces production before a model's production ends, is taking a slightly different strategy this time: to produce as many ICE Macans as possible before production ends.

Building up inventory means that, in parallel with taking orders for new production slots, Porsche will stock up on as many Macans as possible that it has already built, and will continue selling them as long as they are still in stock, even after production ends in the summer of 2026.

This suggests that Porsche expects to continue selling the ICE Macan in some parts of the world until 2027. *Of course, new orders will not be accepted for production after the summer of 2026, so it will only be possible to purchase ICE Macans that are still in stock.

Relationship between the end of EV subsidies in the US and demand

Despite approximately 12 years having passed since the initial Macan went on sale, there is still very high demand for the Macan in the United States. Therefore, the goal is to maximize Macan sales in the US before the discontinuation of the ICE Macan, in order to offset the sluggish demand for the electric version of the Macan.

With the federal EV tax credit ending in the US, it seems that selling as many ICE Macans as possible in the US is a way to counter the end of these EV subsidies.

The successor to the ICE Macan is scheduled to appear in 2028.

Incidentally, while we know that a successor model to the ICE Macan will be released, it seems there will still be a considerable gap between the discontinuation of the current ICE Macan and the arrival of its successor.

As part of a deal between Porsche and Audi reportedly worth 1 billion euros, a completely new gasoline-engine successor to the Macan, positioned below the Cayenne, is scheduled to appear in 2028 "not as a Macan, but under a different name."

While this model will be mechanically related to the Audi Q5, CEO Michael Reiters has stated that "(the successor to the new Macan) will be a real Porsche."

So, in short, production of the current ICE Macan will end in the summer of 2026.

Therefore, although it's unclear how long they will continue to accept new orders, those who want to build a current ICE Macan with their own configuration should act quickly.

After that, it will be possible to purchase the ICE Macan that Porsche has already produced for a while, and I think Porsche would like to continue selling its current Macan inventory for as long as possible until the announcement of the next successor model.
