Spy shots of the new Porsche 911 Dakar have been taken.
Recently, spy shots of the new Porsche 911 Dakar (992.2 model), which had been rumored since February 2025, have surfaced, reigniting speculation that "the new Dakar is definitely coming."
This is the blog I was writing as of February 2025.:The next Porsche 911 Dakar may be a hybrid
The previous 911 Dakar sold out almost instantly upon release, with a limited run of 2,500 units. Given that, it seems highly unlikely that Porsche wouldn't release a next-generation Dakar. So, I think it's probably coming out.
The Dakar is referred to as the "most flipped 911" by overseas media, which suggests that it's a model that was frequently purchased for resale purposes.

It is true that the 911 became a speculative target in a short period of time, and there were people who actually sold it with only a few hundred kilometers/mile on the odometer, and there were even cases where the same person bought and sold multiple units. In the end, it was a model that seemed to be purchased more for profit than because people genuinely wanted to drive it off-road.
However, the current Porsche market isn't as lucrative as it used to be (which I think is a very good thing), as it's not the case that you can buy one and immediately resell it for a huge profit. So, I think fewer people will be buying Porsches for resale purposes this time around, especially in Japan.
In any case, I hope that whichever model it is, it goes to someone who truly wants it.
So, after that lengthy introduction, let's talk about the next-generation Dakar that was spotted this time.

The most likely candidate to be the base for the next Dakar Rally is the 992.2-type Porsche 911 Carrera GTS.
If that were to happen, the next Dakar would be a T-hybrid.
That being said, the spy shots taken this time of what appears to be a Dakar model (or prototype) do not have the yellow sticker that is usually affixed to hybrid test cars, so at least from this test car, we cannot confirm any features that indicate it is a hybrid.

However, that doesn't mean we can definitively say that the next generation of Dakar, which will likely be released in the future, won't be a hybrid. The rumor is that since it's based on the GTS, it will probably be a hybrid.
Well, rumors have been circulating since February 2025, a year ago, that the next-generation Dakar would be a hybrid based on the 992.2 GTS, so it seems highly likely that this is indeed the case.
If the new Dakar retains the single-turbo hybrid configuration of the GTS series, it is said that its maximum output could be around 539 PS and its maximum torque around 609 Nm, which is a significant increase from the previous generation's 480 PS.
It's also almost certain that it will be four-wheel drive, and it's rumored that the transmission will be PDK again this time.
Visually, it's based on the 992.2, so the turn signals are integrated into the headlights.
It's unclear what will happen to the front bumper area and the yellow lights on the hood. The rear still looks like the GTS, and there's no sign of a fixed rear wing, so it seems like it's still under development.

When sold as a Dakar, it may be fitted with a Dakar-specific rear bumper and front air intake, and there's also a possibility that some kind of dedicated fixed wing will be added, similar to the previous model.
And let's not forget that Dakar-specific features like roof racks will surely be available. Of course, a roof tent option (or perhaps a tech kit) will also be offered.
The interior is also expected to be state-of-the-art, featuring the latest digital meters, infotainment system, and possibly even a starter button for the engine.

We still don't know what the new Dakar will actually be like when it's announced, but even if the next new Dakar is again a limited edition, I hope it will be sold to people who simply want to enjoy the Dakar model.
