This is the first time a 911 GT2 RS has exceeded $1 million in price.
While the new 992.2-type Porsche 911 GT2 RS is expected to be released soon, it seems that the popularity of the 991-generation model remains strong among collectors. A GT2 RS that recently sold for $1 million at auction made headlines, with some speculating that it might be the first GT2 RS to fetch that price.

Although the yen appreciated somewhat temporarily, the current exchange rate is roughly 160 yen to the dollar.
In other words, it would be sold for around 160 million yen in Japanese currency right now. Amazing.

There are said to be two possible reasons why this GT2 RS, which was put up for auction this time, was sold for such a high price.
The first is the mileage.
This car has only been driven 593 miles (954 km). That's certainly a low mileage.

The second point is that the body color is Viola Purple Metallic, which is a PTS (Paint to Sample/special color).
It's also been suggested that the fact that the car is equipped with the Weissach package, worth $18,000 (approximately 2.88 million yen), may have been a contributing factor.
The car came with an owner's manual, a car cover, a Carfax report (vehicle history) that did not record any major accidents, and a clean title issued by New York State (a certificate of ownership managed by the New York State government). The fact that there were no problems with these items was undoubtedly one of the major factors that contributed to the high price.

The interior of this GT2 RS is a little unusual; the center section of the carbon fiber bucket seats has a purple (?) and white design, but it's a bit strange that the purple used here is different from the purple of the body color.

The color appears bluish compared to the body color. I wonder if they didn't have a purple like Viola Purple.
Nevertheless, as you can see from the low mileage, the interior of the car is in good condition.

In the future, it's possible that not only this one car, but other GT2 RS models as well, will see their prices rise, right?
Until the latest Porsche 911 Turbo S with T-Hybrid technology was released, the GT2 RS was the most powerful model among Porsche's production cars.
The form in which the 992-generation GT2 RS will be released may also influence the price of future 991-generation GT2 RS models.
