Porsche tire change (6th time): Cutting the tire

Posted: Posted:

Front tire that looks like the surface has peeled off

In May 2025I participated in Masami Kageyama's driving school, Masami Meeting, and drove the Tsukuba Circuit TC1000.In the process, the surface of the left front tire of my beloved black Carrera had peeled off.

Before I started running this TC1000, I received a letter from the Porsche Center, where I always rely on.

"(The tread is getting thinner again) so it's about time to change your tires."

That's what I was told, but as always, I was planning to be stingy.

"So after this TC1000 run, let's do one more steady circle run before changing it."

I was planning to use it up until the very last moment.

However, when the tire peeled off like this during the TC1000 run in May, there was no choice but to replace it, and I have always relied on them for tire changes.Tire Care TokyoI headed towards Mr.

On my way to get my tires cared for, I also came across a Porsche 911, but since I was driving slowly to protect my tires, I said goodbye in no time.

Arrived at Tire Care.

As I write every time, they do their work very carefully and the replacement is quick, andYou can also purchase tiresHowever, these are of course brand new and can accommodate N-tire specifications, yet are still quite cheap even when compared nationwide.

*If you wish to specify N tires, you will not be able to select them when purchasing online, so please contact us separately.

*Not compatible with very large tires or center lock replacement.

My black Carrera has the following tires (all N tires):

◆ YOKOHAMA ADVAN SPORT V105 235/40ZR19 92Y
◆ YOKOHAMA ADVAN SPORT V105 295/35ZR19 100Y

The tire change history of the black Carrera is as follows:

  • (Car purchased in March 2017)
  • 1st: May 2019
  • 2nd time: March 2021
  • 3rd time: July 2022
  • 4th: June 2023
  • 5th: September 2024
  • 6th time: July 2025 (←this time)

The last time I replaced it was at the end of September 2024, and this time (I haven't written about it on my blog for a while, but it actually happened) was at the beginning of July 2025, so it's been almost nine months since I last replaced it.

When I first purchased this black Carrera, the sales person at the Porsche Center

"Since your wife will be riding it, it might be that you sell it (or replace it) after driving about 10,000 kilometers?"

It all started with a conversation like, "You don't drive it much, do you?", so I never even considered changing the tires on this car when I bought it.

...That was what I had expected, but I unexpectedly became completely immersed in the black Carrera, and before I knew it, I had changed the tires six times (lol).

Before,The wire was exposed before the tire was changed. There have been times like that, but this time the peeling looks really scary.

I was nervous when I rode the TC1000 home in this condition, and then from home to the tire care center this time, but I was relieved when I arrived safely at the shop and had the tire removed.

I was able to see this scratch again.

By the way, the front tire looks like this:

This is the rear↓

I asked him to measure the damage to the left front tire. It was about 15cm vertically.

It's about 5cm wide.

When the tire on the TC1000 was in this state, Kageyama and others could just touch the peeled part with their fingers to check the condition of the tire.

"Stop it, it's making the peeling worse!!"

I was in a panic, but by this point the tire had already been removed, so I decided to take the opportunity to take a closer look at how far it had come off.

First, try peeling more of the tire from this peeled part with your fingers to see how much force you need and how easily it peels off.

Here you go.

...I tried it, but it didn't budge at all.

I regret saying "Stop it!" to Kageyama-san who had been checking with me and saying "It's okay" (lol).

It really wasn't something that could be easily removed by just touching it.

Next, let's try to peel it off forcefully, putting on gloves and pulling as hard as we can.

But, however.

This one also barely budges.

These tires are able to support a heavy vehicle and continue to run under tremendous stress and heat, so it makes sense that they wouldn't come off just because I pulled on them, but when I saw them in this condition, I couldn't help but think, "If I pull on them, they'll come off."

But as expected of a tire, no matter how hard I pulled, it just wouldn't come off.

I had no choice but to use a knife to cut off the peeled off part (I'm a pervert who prepares gloves and a knife before going to change a tire (lol)).

When we cut away the peeled part, we could see that it had gone to a fair depth, but not yet deep enough to be fatal.

Cutting the tire off was quite a struggle, so I finally decided to stab it with a knife from above, a slightly risky thought.

Wow, that's amazing. Even with my strength, it didn't go in easily.

When you're moving, even small screws can be easily pushed through by the force of the car and the rotation of the tires, but I was impressed to see that it's still at a level where the strength of a human hand is not enough to break them.

You probably think that's obvious, right?

But when I think about actually stabbing a knife into a tire in front of me, I feel like I can do it before I actually do it (laughs).

But when I actually tried it, I couldn't do it, and I was really impressed. Tires are amazing.

The person who was having fun pulling and scraping the peeled off parts of the tire, and finally trying to stab it with a knife, saying "Whoa, it didn't go in!" was...oh, this was Tire Care (lol).

While the tire care worker was changing the tire next to me, I asked him if I could just stick a knife in it and got his permission.

It's already becoming clear that I'm quite a pervert, so the tire care guy is looking at me with a warm gaze, thinking, "This pervert is up to something again" (really (lol)?).

The tire care person said, "I think it would be easy to puncture the side of the tire."

Wow. That's true. The sidewall of a tire is thin, and if the sidewall is damaged, the tire needs to be replaced immediately.

It's worth a try!

Now, Tyre-san, excuse me for a moment and start from the side...

Puss.

Amazing! The side part was really easy to pierce with just the strength of a human hand.

It's educational to be able to actually conduct an experiment like this and check the strength of the tires.

Just to be sure, I also checked the inside of the tire, but of course there was no damage to the inside (this is the tire viewed from the inside) ↓

Usually, only one person changes the tires at Tire Care (in that case, it takes about an hour to change all four tires on a 911), but on this day, two people were doing the work, so the four tires were changed in just over 30 minutes.

Thank you for letting me hang out with you next to you during that time.

Here are the new tires I just put on:

I'm relieved to have new tires again.

I had been refraining from driving my black Carrera since my tire came off in May, and then in JuneThere was a Lamborghini event.Due to the timing of being out and the timing of the tires arriving and when I could go to the shop to have them replaced, I was not able to get the tires replaced until the beginning of July.

It was unthinkable for me to go more than a whole month without driving the black Carrera, so I was extremely happy to be able to drive it again after such a long time.

The thing I hate most is losing this car.

I'm often asked, "If you could only keep one Porsche, which one would it be?" and for me, the only one I can think of is this black Carrera.

I would like to continue enjoying this black Carrera in various ways (although I would like the tires to last at least a year if possible) ^^

What?

What happened to the part of the tire that was cut off that day?

Well, already,I still have the coolant that leaked from my black Carrera. It's me, right?

Of course, I took the ripped tire home and kept it as part of my collection (lol).

Thank you again to Tire Care Tokyo for changing my tires!
