Rear tire replacement for Porsche 911

Posted: May 27, 2019 Updated:

Porsche 911 991 late model tire replacement

Last month, for the first time, I replaced the front tires of my Porsche 911 Carrera 991 late model.

When I asked my brother who changed the tires at that time, "Isn't the rear tires still okay?" With a light feeling, he looked into the tires and checked ...

"No, this is totally useless! It's extremely dangerous and the vehicle inspection won't pass."

Yeah! !! Astonishing words. After being told that, when I often looked into the rear tires from below, it was true, was it so slippery? ??

That's why I left the tire shop saying, "I'll buy the rear tires soon and come back to replace them!", But then I just forgot to buy the tires (← seriousness is enough). No), I finally got the rear tires more than a month after the front tires were replaced.

Departure in heavy rain to replace the rear tires of Porsche 911

I made a reservation in advance for the day to have the tires changed, and finally the day to change the rear tires. With this, "You can escape from the dangerous state of slippery rear tires! It was the morning of the tire change day I thought.

Ue. what's this!

Yes.

Most of the time, I'm always blessed with the weather, but Tokyo on this day said, "It will be like the heaviest rain of the year, a storm."

Wait a minute, do I have to run at the very end with slippery tires in this rain? Is that the last drive just before changing tires? ??

Before departure, the headline of tomorrow's news will be titled "Porsche 911, which was about to change slippery tires, in the heavy rain of the Metropolitan Expressway ..." I envisioned something (laughs).

The night before this day, I was asked "Have you ever felt stressed?" In a little conversation flow, but when you think about it carefully, it seems that you have lived and felt stressed. I thought it wasn't there at all.

Then, people around me said, "No, Rika-chan, I never felt stressed!", And somehow, "I'm living a proper, easy-going, optimistic life." I was talking (was) talking about it, so this must have given me a test, saying, "Please feel a little stressed" (laughs).

Ah, the introduction has become longer again, but I will face such a challenge and head to the tire shop at once. But ... If you ride a Porsche, it's stress-free (laughs). Yay.

Anyway, I was thinking about going seriously and carefully on this day, but it was a heavy rain and I was saved because the entire Metropolitan Expressway was running slowly ^ ^

Arrived safely at the shop where you can change the tires.

The older brother who worked on it was a different older brother than when he changed the front tires.

But this time, my brother is also a very kind person, and today I said something like "I was worried that I could get it safely in this heavy rain." There are times when I'm happy ^^

Rear tire replacement work started immediately

Once again, I arrived a little too early, but he started working early.

Goodbye to the slippery rear tire.

Wheel locknut

When I was about to remove the tires, my brother asked me, "Do you know where the locknut (adapter) is?"

Oh, that was something I had learned from another brother before, so I was able to immediately answer, "Oh, I'm here!" A few seconds that makes me feel a little drunk (laughs) ← Thanks to my previous brother ^^

And again, I'm sorry at the amateur level, but I've learned about locknuts. That is ... Of the several wheel nuts, only one of them uses a locknut.

For my 911, there are 5 nuts for the wheel, 4 of them have a regular hexagonal shape and only one is a specially shaped locknut. That's why. I see.

Well, that's why both rear tires were safely removed.

"Ah, did you remove the rear tire? Is this the case?", Porsche 911 staring at his tire with his round eyes ↓ I like this picture because it is so cute (laughs).

The rear tire was already too slippery ~

Now, let's take a closer look at the removed rear tires. Hmmm, this is really smoother than I expected.

The "slip sign" that tells us that it's time to change the tires because the tire groove is less than 1.6 mm, isn't it? It is out so perfectly.

When I witnessed such a tire condition, I was really glad that I came early even in heavy rain.

Yokohama Advan Sports V105E 295 / 35ZR19 (100Y) N0

This is the new tire that arrived. "Yokohama ADVAN Sport V105E 295 / 35ZR19 (100Y) N0". ProperlyN-spec tires certified by PorscheIs ^^

When I changed the front tires, I saw the newly arrived tires and thought, "Is this really the same as the tires I have now?", But the rear tires also seem to be "Is this really the same?" It's completely different.

My brother showed me the old and new tires side by side, saying that they are completely different.

I don't think it's the same ... Where did the many grooves disappear? Oh, did you run (laughs)?

It's so slippery that another one to commemorate ^^

Next, remove the removed tire from the wheel.

Oh yeah, I was curious about how heavy a tire like this was, so I gave it to me ... it was really heavy! Still, my brother says that this Yokohama tire is relatively light.

Oh, by the way, this time as well, I got permission from my brother in advance, "Can I shoot various things? Can I ask various things?"

After changing the front tires, a former mechanic I knew told me, "If I could see Jirojiro so close, I must have thought it would be difficult to do it."

This time, when I told my brother about it, he answered with a gentle smile like a prince, "No, we're all right! Please do as much as you want!" Thank you ^^ Fufufu ~.

Rear tires of Porsche 911, thick!

The wheel with the tires removed looked like this, and it was really thick. When I looked at it again, I was surprised at its size (thickness).

I was deeply moved by the fact that I was running with such thick tires. To me, my brother said, "It's kind of like a pan!" Certainly (laughs). It really reminds me of the lunch service.

Next, we will install new tires on the wheels.

As was the case with the front tires, when I put on the tires, I heard a tremendous loud noise.

Both my former brother and this one said, "This sound isn't that loud yet," but for me, who isn't used to hearing it, I was surprised that I wasn't ready anymore. It feels like my heart will stop.

This time it was a big deal, so I also took a video (12-second video). It sounds once on the front side and once on the back side, so click twice! It seems to ring.

The power of the sound is not fully transmitted in the video, but this is quite more really exciting. Again, I'm sorry for the video that is too plain (laughs).

Except the space where the rear tires are removed

I went back to see the Porsche with the rear tires removed, as soon as my brother started working on the second tire.

Well, it's beautiful.

Is it okay to touch it? Maybe it's hot? I tried to touch it for the time being while being excited.

When I touched it, it wasn't hot at all, it was very smooth, and it was really good (what (laughs)?).

And that's it. The rear tires of the Porsche 911 are so big that when the tires are removed, there is a lot of space for the removed parts.

Around the yellow circle here ↓

No, when I thought that there was such a gap, I looked into it, and my head popped in as it was, and I looked all the way to the inside.

Eh, did you get your head in? ... yes, it's in there ... While working on the tires, my older brother also thought, "Hey, I was looking at you all the time right next to you, but there are no more customers?" Look at me sneaking in and smirking ...

"I've seen something that shouldn't be seen! That's the so-called dangerous person."

I must have thought (laughs).

By the way, there was a QR code-like thing this time as well, so I read it, but it seems that this was not a general QR code standard. disappointing.

Tire / wheel balance adjustment

After enjoying the suspicious world, I finished installing the tires and then started the process of checking the balance of the tires, so I will return to my brother again.

This is also one of the things I learned when changing the front tires, and by putting the tires on this machine, the balance of the tires is adjusted ... or the machine will tell you what to adjust.

Again, there was one thing I didn't learn last time.

Last time, I learned that the number displayed in the red circle in the photo below ↓ can be adjusted by pasting the number of grams on the tire on the displayed side ...

This time, I also learned that the yellow circle actually specifies where to put the specified number of grams on the tire. very!

This time, I was instructed to put 15 grams on the outer upper part of the tire, but if I mistakenly put 15 grams on the "outer lower part" of the tire, when I adjust the balance again with this machine, This time, the correction value will increase further to 30 grams.

* By the way, my brother says that this machine is a little old, and if it is the latest machine, there is a laser pointer that tells you to "stick it here on the tire". Also, there are machines that do the tire mounting etc. fully automatically.

This is where the adjustment gram is pasted on the tire (this is 10 grams) ↓

No, it's amazing. There are so many things that are really considered in a car. When I think that all the little things are being considered, I am grateful and respectful to the people who made the car and, of course, Porsche who developed the Porsche 911, and I will take more care and care in the future. I want to come again.

How do you distinguish the outside and inside of a tire?

I had another question here, so I asked my brother.

Is it a sign that the colored line on this tire is "this is the outside of the tire"? That is. You can see that the pink and yellow lines are drawn ↓

However, my brother's answer was different. "No, it says" OUTSIDE ", which means" this is the outside "." Wow, that's true! This is easy to understand (laughs) ↓.

I didn't have it on my tire this time, but it seems that there are tires that also specify left and right, and in that case, in addition to OUTSIDE, left and right are also specified by arrows. Hey ~. I would like to see it somewhere next time.

I had the rear tires replaced, and now all four tires are new, and I am even more happy with Porsche 911.

Having said that, the new tires were still dangerous at first, so it was a heavy rain on that day, so I went home slowly.

Thank you for this rear tire change, brother. Also, it was really fun to show me various things and learn from them! !! From the next time, I would like to exchange 4 of them properly ^ ^

I love the scent of Porsche 911 engine heat ...

Well, and. What I have done since I came back in the heavy rain ...

Yes, that is to wipe Porsche clean. It was a heavy rain on this day just after the car was washed ... It should be almost clean, so I wiped it with a number of microfiber cloths so as not to damage the body.

In fact, it was good because the cloth didn't get dirty at all. I'm back shiny.

And when I wiped it off, I opened the engine hood as usual and wiped it off.

that…. On this day, I went into the space where the rear tires were removed and saw various things, but at that time, I noticed that the back of the rear tire space was soft and warm.

"I wonder if you can enjoy the scent of the engine closer ..."

I confirmed the scent of the engine from the space of the rear tire (high, it's already metamorphosis).

Such me.

There is something I can say affirmatively.

Yes. that is.

This "smell of engine heat that you can feel from the fan by opening the engine hood" is better than "the scent of engine heat that you can smell by removing the rear tire and putting your head in the back". Hundreds of times better! !! !! about it! !! !!

Oh, I'm sorry for the metamorphosis story that can't be saved at the end (laughs). But I really like this.

Don't bother to remove the rear tires, please click here for the scent of the heat of the engine ... ^^ It was a fun rear tire replacement!
