Macan reaches 1 million units faster than any other Porsche

One millionth Macan rolls off the line at Leipzig plant

On July 16, 2025, Porsche announced that its production plant in Leipzig had reached a cumulative production of 1 million Macans.

The Macan has been produced at the Leipzig plant since 2013, and is a popular model among Porsche models, with 82,795 units delivered in fiscal year 2024.

The Macan is expected to exceed one million units sold in the 12 years from 2013 to 2025, making it the fastest-selling model in Porsche's history.

Porsche's signature model, the 911, reached one million units sold in 2017 after more than half a century.

In addition, the Cayenne, an SUV model like the Macan, reached 1 million units in its 18th year.

Considering that, it's pretty quick for the Macan to reach 1 million units in just 12 years.

Mass production of the second-generation Macan, a fully electric vehicle, will begin in 2024, and the Leipzig plant is currently adding a body shop and axle production facilities, and is currently undergoing further expansion.

The factory is designed to be flexible and produce vehicles with three different powertrains - internal combustion, hybrid and electric - on a single production line.

The 1 millionth Macan is the EV Macan 4 in Frozen Blue Metallic

The 1 millionth Macan is the Macan 4, a fully electric vehicle with 408 horsepower and a range of 612 km.

At a compatible 800 Volt DC charging point, the battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in approximately 21 minutes, thanks to a charging capacity of 270 kW.

The owner is 62-year-old entrepreneur Stefan Schmidt, and the Macan 4EV's body color is Frozen Blue Metallic.

Highlights of the equipment include a two-tone black and crayon leather interior, adaptive sports seats, a heated GT sports leather steering wheel, a head-up display with AR technology, and a panoramic roof.

The car was handed over to the owner at the Porsche Experience Center Leipzig, and after the car was delivered, the owner also test drove the same electric Macan 4 on the circuit within the facility.

Picking up a new car at the Porsche Experience Center in Leipzig will apparently include the opportunity to test drive the same model on the same day.

In Japan, if you purchase a new Porsche, you can now receive a free test drive invitation for the same model as the car you purchased at the Porsche Experience Center Tokyo, so it's the same as using this on the delivery day at PEC Tokyo.

I think it's a great way to drive the same Porsche model you purchased through the Porsche Experience Center, so you can get an idea of what the car you're about to take home will be like.

The Leipzig plant, where the 100th Macan was produced, has been in operation since 2002 and now employs approximately 5,000 people, producing the Macan and Panamera. Until 2017, the Cayenne SUV was also produced here.

The Carrera GT was also produced at the Leipzig plant from 2003 to 2006.

This factory has won the Lean and Green Management Award in 2021 and Factory of the Year in 2023, so I think many more Porsches will continue to be produced here in the future.
