Porsche has partnered with the non-profit organization Liter of Light to display and donate solar-powered lights to India's Diwali festival.
The lights were handcrafted by unemployed women and numbered 1,963, in honor of the birth year of the Porsche 911.
The 1,963 solar lights were displayed at the Gateway of India in Mumbai, India, setting a new Guinness World Record for the largest display of solar lights.
There are various Guinness World Records.
Diwali is an annual festival of lights celebrated in India and is one of the most important festivals in the Indian calendar.
Since it was a festival of light, this light display seemed a perfect fit.
The lights are painted in the new Provence color (light purple) that appeared on the new EV Macan, giving it a Porsche feel.
The lights were installed in the shape of a Porsche crest at the India Gate and people could view them from the 26-metre high structure.
Porsche has partnered with Liter of Light, a non-profit organization that aims to provide employment opportunities, especially to women, by teaching skills and creating jobs in the community.
The aim of this event was to get unemployed women to make the lights, and after the event, all 1,963 lights were carefully packed and transported to villages in India (Maharashtra and Gujarat) and donated with the support of local organisations.
The lights are made from ceramic and run on a simple solar power system, and will be used in the homes of residents who lack reliable electricity and are forced to use dangerous lighting methods such as burning coal or kerosene.
