Porsche's Active Ride is like a helicopter

What is Porsche's Active Ride?

While reading a test drive review of the Cayenne Electric (hereinafter referred to as the Cayenne EV), I noticed a particular word in the description of the "Porsche Active Ride" feature installed in the Cayenne Turbo EV used in the test drive.

That's called "helicoptering."

Personally, I found this to be incredibly easy to understand.

So what exactly does Porsche's Active Ride feature do? It's a system where the Active Ride (active suspension) constantly adjusts the vehicle according to the situation, counteracting all the forces that a typical SUV would experience under normal driving conditions.

For example, during acceleration, the front of the car would normally lift (nose lift), but to counteract this, the rear suspension lifts slightly and the front suspension lowers.

When braking, the front of the car normally dips, but this is counteracted by a suspension movement that lifts it up. Also, when cornering, the outer suspension rises and the inner suspension lowers.

Therefore, this Active Ride function absorbs road surface irregularities through the movement of each wheel, resulting in a smooth ride. Furthermore, it counteracts the pitch and roll of the vehicle body that occur during acceleration, deceleration, and cornering, thus keeping the vehicle body level at all times.

While I can understand the explanation of Active Ride by Porsche,

"Porsche compares the movement achieved by this technology to that of a helicopter."

In this way, cars equipped with Porsche Active Ride reduce the forces felt by occupants during acceleration and deceleration by tilting forward during acceleration and backward during deceleration, similar to the movement of a helicopter.

Porsche has been using the "helicopter" analogy to explain the Active Ride feature in the Panamera and Taycan ever since it was introduced, but I hadn't noticed it until now...
