Say goodbye to lightweight glass that fogs up easily and tape marks
Oh no...A 992.1 Porsche 911 Carrera T came to me.This will be in July 2023.
Shortly after I got my car, I noticed that the windshield would fog up very quickly, and when the fog started to appear, tape marks would appear on the glass.I wrote this on my blog in August 2023.That thing.
After I wrote about these tape marks and fogging issues on my blog, I received a lot of messages and comments from people saying things like "That happens to me," and "My GT3, which also has lightweight glass, has the same problem," and that's when I realized, "Oh, this isn't just a problem with my Carrera T."
The issue began to be raised overseas as well, and it was finally resolved in March 2024?Recall on this glass in the USis issued, and thenRecall in Japan in June 2024was served.
*The recall relates to the front and rear glass but is not due to tape marks, so please see the related article at the bottom of the blog for more information.
A recall was issued in Japan as well, and my Carrera T was subject to the recall based on its chassis number, so I went to a Porsche center to check whether it was "subject to repair" under the recall.
As a result, although my car was not affected by the current recall, they were able to replace the fogged up windows free of charge.
I had been thinking things like "I hate it when it fogs up so easily," "It's a pain to wipe it every time," and "Depending on how the light hits it, the tape marks and fogging can block your view and it can be very dangerous," but by the time they decided to replace it, it had already been over a year since I took delivery of the car, so although it's not a good thing, I had gotten used to it.
They said they didn't have any replacement glass available right away, but they said "Anytime is fine," so we waited and the replacement was carried out the other day.
Well, when I look back, it's been a long journey!
Regarding this cloudy glass, so many people have given me various advice, complained with me (lol), and I would like to express my sincere gratitude to each and every one of them for their efforts in various ways.
Every time I got into the Carrera T, I had to wipe the windows, which would fog up easily, and encourage myself by telling myself, "I'm not the only one having this difficult time," and I've been able to work hard and get through each day since I took delivery of the car (as dramatic as ever, lol).
No, no, but I am truly grateful to so many people for this. Thank you very much.
I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to the Porsche Center Takanawa and Koishikawa who checked the glass along the way and took the time to help me. Thank you very much.
so!
Take a look, here are the last remaining tape marks on my memorable Carrera T!!
I understand?
There are two tape marks in the yellow circle. It's pretty amazing how clear and visible the tape marks are! (Showing off?)
This time, from the time it was decided that the glass would be replaced until the replacement glass arrived, I decided not to wipe the windshield even once, so that I could burn this final tape mark clearly into my memory.
What for? Hmm, to commemorate our long time together...maybe (lol)?
When it's time to say goodbye, you'll be left with nostalgic tape marks. No, I'm lying. That's not the case.
But when I think, "Oh, my windshield will no longer fog up, and tape marks will no longer appear," I have mixed feelings. Of course, I'm most happy about it.
Glass part number before and after replacement
By the way, the original foggy windshield of my MY23 Carrera T had a message saying "PILKINGTON 43R-012635" It was given the number ".
And the glass after replacement is:PILKINGTON 43R-012635"is.
Wait, what? Did you think they were the same?
Yes, the part number is the same, but the number written underneath is different. Maybe this is what indicates the difference.
If you are replacing the product, please write "....3After the replacement, the number under the part number was "2." This is the only difference.
This time I replaced the glass at Porsche Center Koishikawa. Thank you as always.
My husband drove me to pick up the Carrera T, so I was able to line up the Carrera T and the 997GT3, which was also a great memory.
In addition, although this glass replacement was not included in the campaign, I had previously had another Porsche inspected and had a one-year inspection done, which was apparently included in the campaign, and I received special lights from Porsche Center Koishikawa.
Apparently this is a limited edition item with only 60 units available nationwide, so I'm glad I happened to be getting my car inspected during the campaign.
It seems that they run these kinds of campaigns from time to time, so if you're planning on using them, it's worth checking out.
On the way back from Porsche Center Koishikawa, I was deeply moved to see the tape marks on the windshield that had been there before the car was brought in.
Of course, it was only natural since it had just been cleaned, but the windshield was sparkling clean, and it felt so good that I even thought my eyesight had improved.
...I'd be surprised if, after writing this much, it started to fog up again in a few weeks (lol), but I don't think that will happen, so from now on I'll be able to relax and enjoy my Carrera T without having to fight against fogging up the glass and without stress.
If you are still having trouble with fogging and have not yet had to replace your glass, we hope that you will be able to find a solution quickly.
I'm a simple person, and I've been riding my Carrera T more frequently since it came back, just because I feel like the windows are no longer cloudy.
Maybe the stress was more unconscious than I thought.
I am truly grateful to everyone who has helped me think about this issue of cloudy glass, given me advice, shared their feelings with me, and was involved in the project. Thank you very much.
I am happy to be able to report this good news about the Carrera T glass replacement at the very end of 2024.
