Measures to prevent the lightweight glass of the 992 Porsche from fogging up

Posted: Posted:

Maybe it's a solution?

I previously wrote about the glass of the MY23 Porsche 911 (992.1) becoming cloudy and having tape marks.

After that, I listened to various people (though there were likely to be exceptions), and the most common opinion was, ``It seems like the lightweight glass of the 992.1 type is especially foggy.''

By the way, the model number of the lightweight glass for my Carrera T (992.1) is "PILKINGTON 43R-012635". It seems that almost everyone with this has a cloudy problem.

Was it the tape marks that were originally on the windshield? It's like when the glass fogs up, no matter how much you wipe it, it comes back to life every time the glass fogs up.

The two lines surrounded by yellow are the tape marks ↓

When you're driving at night and the light hits you like this, or depending on the sunlight, the glass can become so foggy that you can't see clearly in front of you.

Therefore, every time I ride 992.1 (once every 2-3 days when I ride it every day), I wipe the inside of the windshield before going out.

But one day, even though I hadn't driven the car for about a week, I didn't have time so I went out without cleaning the windows. At that time, I was on the highway and when the sun hit it, it was really cloudy in front of me. It was so dangerous that I couldn't see, so I bought some glass cleaner at 100 yen and wiped it down as soon as I arrived at my destination.

If you don't wipe it properly, it will become cloudy depending on how the light hits it.

I tried various things, such as wiping it with a product sold under the name of glass cleaner, but the cloudiness would appear (come back) after about a week.

Wow, it's really hard to wipe this every time, and since it's every time, I end up getting lazy and wiping it so sloppily that it ends up being sloppy and dirty (← This is my fault (lol). But the same thing... If you are wiping it every time, you will understand how it gets more and more troublesome).

Well, that's when I was thinking about what to do.

In the comments I received on my blogThe problem was solved by having a glass company clean it., and from another personAfter using an anti-fog product applied to the inside of the glass, tape marks no longer appear.I was told that (= not cloudy).

yeah. This is probably extremely useful information! !

It's just my imagination, but the countermeasure is to apply anti-fog coating to the inside, and I think the glass companies did the same thing. and.

I wanted to share the useful information I received as soon as possible, but I would be sorry if it turned out to be cloudy after a few days, so after receiving this information, I decided to try it myself first. I thought I'd give it a try.

*I don't mean to doubt the person who commented! I tried it in the same way on my car and got the same result (no fog), so I wanted to be able to give a more reliable result.

Anti-fog for inner windows: rain X Anti-Fog

Here are the products you introduced. It's called ``rain

I also purchased the exact same product that you introduced. As long as it's an anti-fog product for interior windows, it seems that other manufacturers' products would also be effective (probably).

So, I would like to clean the glass right away.

First, I used the glass cleaner I had on hand to clean both the outside and inside of the glass. It looks like it comes with a water-repellent coat, but I guess it's okay (I guess).

After cleaning the glass with glass cleaner, I wiped down the inside of the windshield and side windows using the Rain-X inner window anti-fog that you introduced.

Immediately after wiping it, it looks shiny!

It's hard to tell because it's difficult to take pictures of the sparkling condition, but right after wiping it, visibility was clear and the windshield and side windows were clean and free of any fog.

I wanted to wipe it under bright sunlight, so I wiped it outside, but then I took a picture of the glass when I parked it in the parking lot (indoors).

The first time I used this inner anti-fog to wipe the glass was on December 11, 2023. It's clear even from the outside.

Even when I look closer, I can't see any traces of tape or clouding.

992 type Porsche 911 Progress observation of the anti-fog effect of lightweight glass

So, from here on, we will observe the progress.

First of all, it will be December 15, 2023, four days after December 11, 2023, when the glass was first wiped.

From now on, I would like to shed some light on this issue.

Wow.

When I shined a light on it and looked at it, there was a lot of microfiber fluff on it. Wow. It was not visible at all in the sunlight.

I don't get this kind of lint from the Costco microfiber that I usually use, but it seems like the one I used that day was a new one that I received at an event... Shimatta.

However, if I wipe it further, I won't be able to monitor the progress, so I'll continue to monitor the progress, even though it's unsightly. sorry.

Well, after 4 days, the results are by far the best so far. Up until now, if I just cleaned it with a regular glass cleaner, it would become cloudy and the tape marks would return after 4 days.

But at this time, there was almost no change even after 4 days (it may look cloudy because I took this photo with the light shining on it for the first time, but it's not at all).

6 days later

Then on December 17th, 6 days after the first wipe.

Can you see some tape marks? However, strangely, I couldn't see it at all when I was actually looking at it with my own eyes.

It may sound like an excuse, but I think this is probably due to a problem with the way it was photographed, and the tape marks were not restored. In fact, as you can see from the photos that follow, the tape marks have not returned since then.

15 days later

The next day was December 26th, 15 days after I wiped it.

There is still no clouding or tape marks returning. I want to clean all the glitter...(I've been running outside a few times, but it doesn't come off at all, maybe because I used cleaner and wiped it, or maybe there's a lot of it on the inside).

24 days later

Finally, the year has passed and it's January 4, 2024, 24 days after I wiped it.

amazing. I'm still going.

It's been 24 days since I first wiped it, and even though I haven't wiped it inside or out since then, I can't see any clouding even when I shine as much light as I can. amazing.

1 month later (31 days later)

And the final day of this verification is January 11, 2024, 31 days after wiping. Yes, this is exactly one month after the first wipe on December 11, 2023.

Here is it.

Even when I shine a light on it from outside, it's still the same as before, and I can't see any clouding or tape marks.

I think this is really effective.

It's been a month now, so I would like to post the results of looking at the light from inside, and here they are ↓

When the window was cloudy, the tape marks were clearly visible on the passenger side window, but even when I shined some light on it from inside, I couldn't see the tape marks, and even when I actually looked at the glass in front of me, I couldn't see the tape marks. I never felt that way.

Even when I looked at the driver's seat side, I didn't get the impression that it was getting cloudy.

Although the test results have only been conducted for one month, up until now, no matter what I did, the windows would fog up within a week, and tape marks would appear, which was the worst, but at least with this new anti-fog solution for the inner windows. It turns out that this will solve the cloudy problem for a month.

I think this is a very effective countermeasure.

Thank you, Azuki-san, for the information! I think it's a savior for many people ^^

Reported initial failure (glass fogging) to Porsche Japan.

By the way, this is what DJ, who often comments on this blog, confirmed via the Porsche Center, but just to be sure, if you are experiencing this glass fogging problem, please report the current situation to the Porsche Center. I was told that it would be better to file a problem report with Porsche Japan.

This is because it will be important for future troubleshooting whether Porsche AG is aware that the foggy glass in your vehicle was an initial defect.

*Currently, even if you replace the glass, there is a high possibility that it will be replaced with the same product, so it is not necessarily a solution, but in the future, when new glass comes out, it may be eligible for free replacement. .

I have also been reported to Porsche Japan via the Porsche Center that the glass becomes cloudy and there are tape marks immediately after delivery.

This time, I had spent a month with the lint on it (in fact, I couldn't see it when I was driving without shining a strong light on it), so I decided to clean it again and see what happens next. I would like to come.

Since I wrote about this cloudy problem on my blog, I have received a lot of opinions, advice, and even information that could be a very useful solution in the end, so I am very grateful.

Everyone Thank you very much!

If you are having trouble with fogging problems with the lightweight glass of this 992 (or not), please try using an anti-fog product for the inside of the glass. I think it would be a good idea for everyone at the Porsche Center to try using internal anti-fog as a countermeasure for customers with foggy glass.

If you have any other good methods or information, I think it would be helpful to many people. Thank you very much and thank you ^^!

Porsche friends are amazing. I'm really impressed. thank you! !
