Apparently, the owner always left the keys inside their Bugatti Chiron.
The theft of a Bugatti Chiron owned by Bugatti Rimac CEO Mate Rimac has become a hot topic.
Mr. Rimac himself has spoken about this matter on Instagram.
According to the report, Mr. Rimac apparently left the keys to his Bugatti Chiron and Rimac Nevera, which he usually kept at his company (factory) in Croatia, inside each car.
This was because employees and other related parties frequently moved various vehicles around the factory grounds, using them for testing and other purposes, so they kept the keys inside the vehicles so that anyone could move them immediately.
Although entry to the building was controlled, the grounds were an open area not surrounded by a fence, meaning that, in a sense, anyone could easily enter.
However, according to Rimac, Croatia is considered a very safe place, and he has been leaving his keys in his car like this in the past without any problems.
*However, after this theft incident, they have said they will no longer leave their keys in the car.
It seems they didn't immediately realize the Chiron had been stolen. After hearing that a stranger had been driving it, they checked in their group chat asking, "Is anyone using the Chiron?", but since no one was, they concluded it had been stolen!
After notifying the police, they tracked the Chiron's location using a telemetry system that allows them to remotely access the car's onboard data. They discovered it was heading towards the Slovenian border, so Mr. Rimac, incredibly, pursued the Chiron in his own Porsche 911, which was nearby.
Since the 911 had a full tank of gas, it was able to keep going and began chasing the Chiron, which it seemed had started driving about an hour earlier.
It's amazing that you're going to start investigating this on your own right away!
Even if we somehow managed to catch up to Shiron, we wouldn't know who the thief was...
Ultimately, the stolen Chiron made its way to Austria, where local police located the car based on real-time information from the factory and arrested the driver.
According to Rimac, the man said he had come to the company looking for work. He entered the factory looking for work, discovered a Chiron with the keys still inside, stole it, and ran away.
Here is the video, later released, showing the moment the culprit stole the car. The culprit was reportedly a 36-year-old Croatian. ↓
It seems that Mr. Rimac has a complicated family background and various circumstances, and he doesn't intend to personally seek punishment for the theft of his Chiron. However, the case is not over yet, and according to Austrian police, the man has admitted to the theft, and criminal proceedings will proceed without him being taken into custody.
