Porsche confirms platform sharing with Audi

At its recent Q3 2026 earnings call, Porsche effectively confirmed that Audi's next electric sports car will utilize the platform developed for the next-generation electric vehicles, the 718 Boxster and Cayman.

According to Jochen Breckner, CFO of Porsche:

"Porsche is providing an electric platform for Audi's project, which will be used for the 718 Boxster and Cayman, both scheduled to debut next year. The project is called C-Sport within Audi, and Porsche is expected to receive cash from Audi, with payment expected to be made in 2027."

It seems that this was stated very clearly.

Audi's Targa sports car, based on a Porsche.

While this platform sharing had been anticipated for over a year, Porsche has now explicitly stated that they will share it.

Developing a dedicated sports car architecture is expensive, and especially in the case of electric vehicles, everything from battery packaging, weight distribution, cooling, and performance targets becomes more complex. By sharing this underlying hardware, both Porsche and Audi can distribute the costs.

And of course, each car is given its own unique character as a Porsche or Audi, making it a model worthy of each brand.

It is said that Audi will position this EV sports car between the TT and the R8.

It's exciting to see how Audi will produce an EV sports car that reflects its own unique style, while Porsche will do the same, even though they share the same platform.

I bet it'll be so different that you'll think, "Wait, is this based on the same thing?"

Incidentally, the production version of Audi's Concept C is also scheduled to debut in 2027, so if everything goes according to plan, we should be able to see both Audi's and Porsche's next year.
