The 718 that wanted to be a Porsche 911? : 718 Cayman GT4 RS preferred number winner

Posted on: May 2, 2025 Updated:

I thought I wouldn't buy a midship Porsche...

I was worried that writing something like this might be misunderstood from various perspectives, but I would like to write that to be honest, I thought to myself, "I like the Porsche 911 (after driving it many times). A mid-engine car doesn't suit me, so I don't think I'll ever buy one."

Of course, this doesn't mean that mid-engine models like the 718 are to be ruled out.

This is not just because of the brand power of "After all, Porsche is 911!", but because I drive a 911 myself,I compared the 911 and 718 at PEC Tokyo.Experience, and even more so,718 Boxster GTS 2.5This was my conclusion after purchasing and riding it and experiencing a variety of things.

In other words, I felt that I lacked the ability to drive a midship Porsche well.

"I don't think I'll ever buy a mid-engine Porsche again (mostly because I'm used to the 911, but I'm not used to the behavior of a mid-engine car and I find it a bit scary)"

...or so I thought, but, for some reason, I now have a 718 Cayman GT4 RS in my house (laughs).

Of course, when we first asked for a GT3, the GT4 RS suddenly appeared.

At the time, I thought long and hard about it, but I decided that this would never happen again, and that since this 718 has a GT3 engine, I would like to try it out, so I decided to break my promise to myself and try the 718 again.

Well, I still bought this GT4 RS because it's the car my husband mainly uses... I bought it under that excuse, but when I actually drove it, it was completely different from the 718 I'd experienced so far, and although I'm still not used to the tremendous intake sound (laughs), I'm having a lot of fun driving it.

However, I still haven't been able to shake the feeling that "midships are scary," so even though it's a high-performance Porsche, I can't go any faster (laughs).

*This is just because I'm not used to Porsche midships, and I'm not denying the 718, so please don't misunderstand. I'm just not good at midships.

so.

Maybe.

Even while I was ordering the GT4 RS, I think there was a part of me that was thinking, "Is it really okay, since it's not a 911?"

Because when I sat in the front, I thought, "Midship is not for me after all." Is history repeating itself again?

I think that feeling of "Is this really okay?" was so heavy that I kept thinking about it for so long...and I think that feeling was transmitted to the GT4RS.

Again, I don't know what I'm talking about (laughs).

This was the first incident that made me think, "Maybe my message got across."

I was surprised to find out that the birthday of this GT4 RS, which was completed, was September 11th.

Furthermore, the transportation started on September 11th.

Oh my, why is your anniversary also 9/11!

When I saw this date, I found myself reflecting on the fact that I was strangely scared and thought to myself, "I'm not used to midship cars."

Sorry for worrying. I don't think it's bad because it's not 911. I'm just not used to it, so I'm sorry for being worried...

That being said, I was happy that 9/11 was my birthday and it was such a great anniversary.

And one more thing that surprised me was the day the car was delivered.

A delivery ceremony was held at PEC Tokyo. However, at that time, the car did not yet have the "preferred number" that I wanted, so the license plate number was just a "normal number assigned for the time being."

Nevertheless.

Miraculously.

the.

The "number assigned in sequence" was surprisingly "912".

No no no, um, if it was just one car before that, it would be a 911!

When I saw this number, I honestly thought, "I'm sorry, you don't have to try so hard to be like a 911."

It's just that I'm not used to mid-engine Porsches (that's just because the first one I drove and got used to was coincidentally a 911), but the fact of the matter is, of course, the 718 Cayman GT4 RS is a great car.

In fact, it's such a lovely car, and I regret not being able to drive it properly because I'm not yet used to mid-engine Porsches.

It may just be a coincidence, but somewhere deep inside me I had always thought, "Maybe it's better not to get a 911," so when I saw all these numbers that seemed related to the 911, it felt like the GT4 RS was trying too hard to be a 911, and it made me really reflect on myself.

I really love the combination of the 718 Cayman GT4RS and this Ruby Star Neo with gold wheels, and I hope to be able to drive more and more Cayman models in the future.

Oh yes, and the number of this 718 Cayman GT4 RS I wanted was the winner on my fourth try. Thank you very much.

So, here are the winning numbers so far (all the same numbers):

  • Porsche 911 Carrera (Black Carrera): Since it was before the introduction of the alphabet system, the winning probability was very bad.about 10 months..
  • Ferrari California T:From here on, after the introduction of the alphabet system.About 2 months..
  • Porsche 911 GT3: Only a miracleThird timeWinning by lottery.
  • Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet:About 3 monthsWinning.
  • Lamborghini Huracán EVO:About 7 monthsWinning.
  • BMW M3: MiraculousSecond timeI won the lottery, so the car already had the number I wanted when it was delivered.
  • ferrari roma:About 2 monthsWinning.
  • Porsche 718 Boxster GTS 2.5:The third timeWinner!
  • Porsche 911 Carrera T:Third timeI won the lottery, and when the car was delivered it was already delivered with my desired number plate.
  • Ferrari 296GTS:First timeAnd I won!! Miracle! Amazing!!
  • Porsche 718 Cayman GT4RS: Won on his fourth try.

Currently it is not a 912, but a GT4 RS, which has already been changed to our family's desired number.

Just one last thing.

For some reason, I couldn't remove the film that was attached to the PCM of this GT4 RS (lol).

There is this yellow mark, so I'm sure there must be a film on the screen, but no matter how hard I try I can't remove it.

This was the first time I had ever seen this film, so I asked the dealer, "Excuse me, can you remove it for me?" and they did it for me. I wonder what this amazing film that won't come off at all...

I ended up writing something irrelevant at the very end, but this purchase of the GT4 RS really made me reflect on whether my selfish feeling that "I'm not good at driving mid-engine Porsches, so maybe it's better not to get a 911" had been conveyed to the GT4 RS.

Of course, now that the car has been delivered, all I can think is "I'm glad I got the GT4 RS." It's a truly amazing Porsche, with great looks and great interior (although I haven't used it to its full potential (lol)).

Of all the cars I've ever owned, this is the Porsche that gets the most attention from people on the street.

Thank you for coming!!

I'd like to get more used to it and be able to enjoy Porsche midships.
