Two Porsches win the award, one with an electric car and one with an ice-car
What Car?, a British automotive magazine/media, has announced its Car of the Year 2025.
The Porsche winners at this awards were the 718 Cayman GTS 4.0, the Cayenne S Coupe, the new EV Macan, and the Taycan.
The awards include:
- 718 Cayman GTS 4.0:Sports Car of the Year
- Cayenne S Coupe:Sports SUV of the Year
- New EV Macan:Best Electric Family SUV to Drive and Best Electric Sports SUV
- Taycan:Best Electric Performance Car
The award was given to a lineup of four Porsche models, two of which are fully electric vehicles.
The new electric Macan and new-generation Taycan were praised for their sporty electric performance, while the 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 and Cayenne S Coupe were highly praised for their dynamic driving performance.
Porsche UK says the awards mean that these Porsche models have been recognised by What Car? magazine as "leaders in their class" and "the best cars to buy".
Porsche 718 Cayman GTS - Sports Car of the Year
This marks the fourth consecutive year that a Porsche Cayman has won the award. In awarding the 718 Cayman GTS 4.0, the What Car? jury had this to say:
"The Cayman GTS is sensational on winding roads, with feel-good steering and great grip, while its engine sounds divine and delivers instant explosive force when you step on the gas."
And comment.
Porsche Cayenne S Coupé - Sports SUV of the Year
This award further underlines the fact that the latest generation Cayenne is the sportiest car in its class.
The latest generation Cayenne S Coupe features an advanced digital display and control concept, new chassis technology with revised suspension design, and a more powerful engine (with an improved plug-in hybrid powertrain offering an electric range of up to 90km).
The judges said:
"Porsche has managed to bend the laws of physics with the Cayenne Coupé. This big, luxurious SUV is surprisingly agile, especially when equipped with the optional adaptive air suspension and active anti-roll bars."
Wow, it's pretty amazing that they could even go so far as to say that they bent the laws of physics.
Porsche Macan electric – Best Electric Family SUV to Drive & Best Electric Sports SUV
The new fully electric Macan only just started being delivered to customers last autumn, but it has quickly garnered high praise, with the judges saying:
"The Macan Electric's characteristic poise and playful handling makes it a joy to drive no matter which version you choose, and the Turbo version in particular pushes the boundaries of what an electric SUV can be."
And that.
The EV Macan, combined with the Taycan, has also contributed to increasing the share of electric vehicles, with electric vehicles now accounting for more than 271 TP1T of Porsche's entire model range in the UK.
Porsche Taycan – Best Electric Performance Car
The new Taycan generation combines outstanding dynamics with driving fun, reaching new heights in terms of performance.
At the same time, there have been significant improvements in efficiency, range, everyday usability and comfort.
"The Taycan was already an incredible performance car, but with its extended range and standard air suspension, it's even more usable than ever, and it delivers cornering precision and refinement that no rival can match."
and rated it as follows.
It always makes me happy to see Porsche being so highly acclaimed in so many different places.
I'd like to try the EV Macan once.
