How to change tires on a Porsche (for the fifth time) and discover the time bomb that was planted in the tires

Posted on: October 22, 2024 Updated:

Changing the tires on my black Carrera for the fifth time already?

Um.

The tires on my black Carrera needed to be changed, so I went and changed them, but when I was writing this blog post I checked my previous posts and realized... what, this is already the fifth time I've changed the tires?!

I'm surprised at how often this happens. Hahaha.

However, since the tires have been used so much that they actually require replacement, they have no choice but to be replaced for safety reasons.

Every time I change the tires, I realize that I am having fun with the black Carrera.

The tire changes after purchasing the black Carrera are as follows:

  • (Purchased in March 2017)
  • 1st: May 2019
  • 2nd time: March 2021
  • 3rd time: July 2022
  • 4th: June 2023
  • 5th: September 2024

Nowadays, it is replaced about once a year.

The last few times I've had to replace them, they've been worn down to the very limit, with no grooves left or the wire sticking out, but this time they were replaced in a much better condition than those times (is that right?).

This time, when I had it inspected at the Porsche Center, I was told that it would be better to replace it, so I decided to replace it.

Rear tire received from Masami Kageyama's driving lesson

There was something extra special about this tire change.

What that means is that this time the rear tires were free!!

Isn't this amazing? It's free, absolutely free.

What happened was that a professional driver who I participate in two or three times a yearI won a lottery for a driving lesson with Masami Kageyama. It is.

If you attend the lessons more than twice a year, you may be entered into a lottery to win a Yokohama tire (too awesome ^^)!

So, as usual, I relied on Tire Care to help me purchase and replace my tires, but I only purchased the front tire myself; I was able to get the rear tire free of charge from Yokohama Tire.

Thank you so much. I'm so grateful (tears)!!

The replaced tires are as follows, both are Porsche approved N tires:

◆ YOKOHAMA ADVAN SPORT V105 235/40ZR19 92Y
◆ YOKOHAMA ADVAN SPORT V105 295/35ZR19 100Y

Below is the information about Tire Care, the company I use every time I purchase and change tires:

I always feel free to write about it on my blog because they are really good new tires (even if they are N-rated) and the replacement work is quick, careful, and inexpensive.

Just to be clear, I have no intention of receiving any kickback or discount by introducing this product. I am just introducing this product because I think it is really good.

Who knew there was a time bomb like this in a tire?

During the tire change process, I usually spend the whole time talking to the person doing the work and watching them do it, but this time I learned something new for the first time while changing the tires.

That means "My Porsche 911 has a time bomb in its tires."

Well, what I'm talking about is...

This is it. Do you get it?

This is a tire pusher monitoring sensor attached to the wheel, and apparently it has a finite lifespan (of the battery).

When the batteries die, it will cost about 100,000 yen to replace four batteries, or maybe not... Wow. Did they have such a scary timer?

I just hope the battery doesn't run out.

Of course, if the battery dies, it will simply stop showing the air pressure, so there is no need to replace it, but I don't want to lose the ability to see what I've always been able to see, so I guess I should replace it after all...and now I'm nervous about when the battery will die.

It's scary because it seems like they usually break down in less than 10 years (the black Carrera lasts about 8 years).

Another thing is that the black Carrera has had two fatal failures in the past, where the right front brake broke (the cause is unknown), so when I change the tires like this, I check for brake fluid leaks, which I can easily see myself.White paint on the indicatorI also checked the following.

I have it checked thoroughly every time I have it inspected at the Porsche Center, but I also make sure to check it myself whenever I'm driving anything more than normal (such as on a circuit).

There were no problems when I checked it that day. That's good ^^ (If there is a leak, the white part will show a leak mark)

Anyway, this time too the tires on the black Carrera were successfully replaced with N-rated Yokohama Advan Sport tires.

I would like to thank Yokohama Tire for providing me with the rear tires, and for giving me this opportunity.Masami Kageyama's Masami MeetingThanks to Tire Care for their perfect work as always!
