Adaptive Cruise Control with Porsche 911 Traffic Jam Assist

So, on this day, if you want to take a leisurely run to Shizuoka prefecture as a break-in, this time my mission is to "master adaptive cruise control" with the aim of getting used to adaptive cruise control (ACC). Saw.

Actually, I'm not good at this adaptive cruise control, and I had tried it a little with BMW before, but I couldn't trust the car, and in the end I got tired and drove myself. As a result, I was tired more than I did (laughs).

Therefore, when I ordered the 992 this time, I had no intention of adding ACC as an option from the beginning. Because I didn't think I would use it.

However, my husband said, "The way back from Fuji Speedway will almost certainly be congested, isn't it? It's absolutely convenient at that time!", So I added "If my husband uses it ...".

And this time, leisurely driving & long-distance driving.

It was exactly the situation, "If I have to use it now, when will I use it!", And my husband strongly recommended that "Rika always hates eating, so try it once anyway", so I tried this time.

Adaptive cruise control method

After getting on the highway and passing through the Metropolitan Expressway, I was frustrated with "What? I'm going here!" (← I have a bad attitude when I do something I don't want to do (laughs)), but I turned on cruise control.

This lever on the lower left of the steering

  • Press from left to right to turn on ACC (push this bar inward to adjust (accelerate), press and hold to increase in 10km increments, pull to the front to set deceleration)
  • ACC turns off when you step on the brake
  • Also, if you want to start ACC from scratch, you can push the lever from left to right, but if you want to resume the setting up to that point, raise the lever up and it will resume with the setting just before turning off.
  • If you want to turn off ACC on the way without stepping on the brake, lower the lever to release it.
  • By moving the small one on the left where DIST is written up and down, you can adjust the sense of distance you want to take with the car in front.

Of course, if you want to accelerate more than the set speed, you can accelerate by stepping on the accelerator.

Unlike stepping on the brake, if you are accelerating, ACC will not automatically turn off even if you step on the accelerator, so if you take your foot off the accelerator, it will automatically return to the set speed and ACC will continue.

Now, I would like to write my impressions about the "adaptive cruise control function of Porsche 911 that I didn't want to use" that I used for the first time.

First of all, I was scared until I got used to it (laughs).

Because I don't know how accurate it is, I was worried when I was getting closer to the car in front of me, "Well, do you really slow down? Do you want to stop?" I was worried, "Do you really want to turn?"

I don't usually care about stiff shoulders, but about the first 5 minutes after starting ACC, "Oh, this is stiff shoulders !! I'm already nervous and tired all over my body !!" I was screaming (laughs).

Because you can't completely release your hand from the steering wheel (when you completely release it or when it's almost away, Porsche will get angry at you, "I'm not sure!"), And if you shouldn't turn, you have to control it. And that "when I have to control" is waiting for sometime, and if by any chance it does not slow down ..., I am waiting for some time when I have to step on the brakes ...

I'm tired (laughs).

In this case, it's much easier to drive by yourself! !! !!

Even if I could see Mt. Fuji, for a while I was still in such a "state of tension in my body" and thought "ACC, I don't need this after all".

Still, the mission of the day is to become an ACC master.

Even if I didn't get used to it, I continued to run with ACC anyway.

Then ... I'll gradually understand. How accurate is the Porsche 911 for cruise control? Obviously.

And when I got used to understanding the accuracy of this, I was thinking, "Oh, it might be a little convenient." Yes, it's simple and I always hate it without eating it ...

First of all, basically, the ACC of Porsche 911 Carrera (992) keeps the distance from the car in front within the set speed, decelerates if the distance gets too close, and automatically stops until full stop if it becomes like a traffic jam. He did it.

As long as the white line is clearly visible (where 911 can be recognized), the steering is automatically operated with almost no problem.

However, there are times when sharp curves are subtle, so if you divide the curve by yourself from the beginning, you don't have to be nervous and wait, so it's easy (steering yourself). ACC does not turn off even if it is turned off).

But after all, the most scary thing was the sharp curve.

If there is a sharp curve, the 911 will recognize that "Oh, the front is clear!" When the car in front turns, or even if it is a curve, it will accelerate to the set speed at once and turn into a curve I will continue to work (laughs).

As I gradually understood the movement of 911, I was able to control it myself, saying, "No, no, I don't have to accelerate to this curve!" It seems that 911 is even more cute, saying, "I don't think it's going to accelerate to that extent.

However, I thought, "If the 911 is going to go at this speed, maybe I can go?"

The set speed of the adaptive cruise control of Porsche 911 (992) is up to 210 km / h

Also, this ACC can be set up to a maximum speed of 210 km / h.

This time, I set 120km with the Shin Tomei Expressway, but until I got used to it, the scary thing about this "automatically running 120km / h"! !! !!

With the Porsche 911, I'm not afraid at all if I drive 210 kilometers (probably ...). However, if this is accelerated by automatic control, it's pretty scary even at 120km! !!

Furthermore, if the front is open even on a curve, it will accelerate 120 km regardless of the R of the curve, so "No, I'm scared to turn at 120 km automatically!" ^ ^

This time, as a result of going back and forth to Shizuoka prefecture and running most of the section with ACC, when I used ACC of Porsche 911, I thought "It may be the most comfortable to use if you use it like this" below Will be:

  • Set the speed up to about 120 km / h (well, it is a legal speed, so it is natural)
  • Think of yourself as turning the steering wheel on a curve
  • Be aware that there is a possibility of strange acceleration in front of the curve

Questions and dislikes about ACC

I ran with ACC so much and thought, "Oh, ACC is definitely a useful function when I feel like driving ACC." But I don't like using only one ACC. There was something.

That is, "I don't know when the car is braking."

In other words, when the distance to the car in front is getting closer, if you are driving yourself (unless it is a very sudden braking), you can see the situation in advance, and the accelerator is off or you shift down and apply the emblem. Control the speed. As much as possible, do not step on the brakes.

However, when this is using ACC, when shortening the distance to the front, I do not know whether it is the accelerator off or the emblem, or whether it is the brake after approaching the place where I can go.

So I thought, "Maybe I'm stepping on the brakes (the brake lights are on) when I'm driving the ACC ??" (smile).

Because I enjoy driving without using the brakes as much as possible, and even when I enter the tollhouse on the way to the highway, I am delighted to be able to decelerate → pass through → accelerate without braking even once. (Is it weird?), So if my 992 is a car with a little brake when using ACC, I don't like it anymore! !! !!

How is it? ?? I don't know because the brake lights can't be seen from the driver's seat ...

Well, if someone found my 992 somewhere and I was driving with a mess of brakes, then I'd be happy if you could warmly think "Oh, you're in ACC" ( smile).

I don't think anyone cares, but it's my weird commitment ^^

When using ACC with Porsche 911

Finally, I thought it would be convenient to use this ACC when.

  • (Because I have bad eyesight and am afraid to drive at night) When driving at high speed at night
  • When there is a traffic jam, or when there is a lot of cars in front of you and you are driving to keep up with the car long ago
  • When you are sleepy or tired but have to drive
  • When you just have a business and have to travel a long distance, not for the purpose of enjoying running

I thought it would be useful.

Normally, it's a Porsche 911, so I want to drive and enjoy myself. It's a waste of time using ACC (except in the above situations).

However, this time I didn't like to eat, so I was able to get used to ACC, and the round trip to Shizuoka was a very good experience.

In fact, even after this day, I've been using ACC more often when I normally use the Metropolitan Expressway and when it's fairly crowded.

If you have many of the above situations, I think it's okay to add the ACC option. I think that it is not necessary if it is a purchase just for enjoying running purely ^ ^

After going to Shizuoka on that day, the mileage exceeded 1,500km, and I've been running since then, so now I'm about to go to 2,000km.
