Porsche Carrera Cup Japan to be operated by PMAP from 2026

Strategic partnership between Porsche Carrera Cup Japan and Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific (PMAP)

On November 7, 2025, a strategic partnership between Porsche Carrera Cup Japan (PCCJ) and Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific (PMAP) was announced.

From 2026 onwards, PMAP will take full responsibility for the operation of PCCJ, utilizing the expertise it has gained from running the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia (PCCA).

It's a bit confusing to suddenly see PCCJ, PCCA, and PMAP (lol). It's not PPAP (old).

As part of this strategic partnership agreement, Hideto Yasuoka will be appointed as the new manager of PCCJ.

Yasuoka said:

From 2010 to 2011, he participated in the PCCJ as a Porsche Japan junior driver.
Won the series championship in 2011
He then competed in the GT300 class of the Super GT.
Participating in the GT World Challenge Asia with Porsche in the 2023 and 2024 seasons

By the way, PCCJ started in 2001 and has a history of 25 years already. It's a one-make race that has been held for that long.

The 2026 season will be the 26th season for PCCJ.

The drivers participating in PCCJ are based on their motorsport experience:

Pro: Professional driver
Pro-Am: Drivers aged 30 or over with an FIA Bronze rating
Amateur: A highly skilled driver with limited racing experience who meets certain qualification criteria.

Classified into three classes:

The top 15 racers will be awarded points ranging from 25 to 1 in the overall standings, with the same system being applied in each class.

    The company that runs it is famous for being a shop that has been participating in races for a long time. I was surprised when I looked into it this time... (laughs)
    
    When I was a university student, I obtained a domestic A-class license and raced at Fuji in preparation for the Fuji Freshman Race, and my boss at my previous company had also reached the podium in the Fuji TS Race, so the place where I used to live was close to a lot of shops related to racing.
    
    At the time, Fuji was run by Mitsubishi Estate, and regulations were not as strict as they are now, so when I lined up at the gates for practice runs early in the morning, I would see cars without license plates parked there (probably because they had driven there in the middle of the night) (lol).
    
    When my boss was racing, there were no chicanes at all, and when I was practicing for the freshman race, there was only one chicane after the 300R. The 100R around it was difficult and there were a lot of accidents. I once saw a 930 Turbo go over the guardrail at a Porsche event held in the afternoon.
    For this reason, a chicane was added just before 100R.
    
    The exit of the steep uphill final corner was also scary. When you go up at full throttle and exit the straight, there's no slope, so it's a bit of a reverse bank, and the car almost flies off the track. When you leave the track, you can't stop on the grass, so you end up sticking to the concrete wall of the main stand. I remember that Toru Takahashi died there, and a chicane was built just before the exit of the final corner.
    
    The straightaway speed is determined by the line taken through the chicane just before the final corner, so you could say that this has made the course both safe and fun. I think the addition of this corner has reduced lap times by about 10 seconds.
    
    We talked at length about the history of Fuji. Since the shop is run by a racing company, it seemed like we were having a great time talking (laughs).

      So you ran on the previous FSW course layout! I only know the new layout so it's hard to imagine, but dropping over the guardrail...that's scary, and the final corner was different too.
      
      ...It's amazing that the management can talk about Fuji at such length ^^
