Porsche 718 to continue selling internal combustion engine models only

Posted: Posted:

It will probably continue as a "limited edition car with an annual production of less than 1,500 units"

Oh, Mr. Porsche.

"The 718 will definitely be converted into an EV!"
"We're not leaving an internal combustion engine in the 718!"
"Because there's also the issue of cybersecurity."
"It's going to be hard to comply with the Euro regulations."

And yet, I said that!! (No, I didn't say it like that (lol)?)

At this point, it's unlikely that they'll release a gasoline-powered (ICE) 718 after all!

So, recently I've been hearing rumors and seeing them in foreign media about the continuation of the 718 ICE, so I decided to check out the proper documents.

And then I realized, "Oh, they really are saying they'll continue with gasoline-powered vehicles with the 718." Porsche-san.

Conference call materials for investors, analysts and media

Let's take a look.

This is the document titled "Update: Strategic Realignment," which Porsche prepared for a conference call for investors, analysts, and the media on September 19, 2025.

Looking at this document, we can see that the current Porsche lineup of electric vehicles (including future models) includes the 718 BEV, just as previously announced.

But, but, there's more.

If you look at the page titled "Adapted product portfolio offering flexibility in the transition," you'll see something like this:

There are two marks next to "New 718" on the bottom left, and these two marks represent two types: "ICE" and "BEV":

But no, these marks are so small, it might be a mistake...

Such thoughts are easily negated, and when you look at the materials here, you can see that it is right in the middle, right in the middle.

"Addition (Addition) TOP ICE DERIVATIBES FOR NEW 718 (Top internal combustion engine derivative models set for the new 718)"

It says so!!! ↓

So, Porsche has officially announced (at least for now) that an internal combustion engine model will be sold as the top model of the 718 from now on.

However, I had a vague concern that this might actually happen.

In fact, I wrote on my blog in May of this year that the gasoline-engine 718 is no longer on sale in Europe. In fact, only the Spider RS and GT4 RS were still on sale.Isn't that right?

This is because it was a limited production model and therefore not subject to cybersecurity regulations.

In other words, if we follow the rule that this does not apply to limited edition cars with an annual production of less than 1,500 units, it may be possible to continue selling ICE 718 cars in the future.

At the moment, Porsche has only said that the upcoming 718 ICE models will be "top internal combustion engine derivatives," so we can be sure that they will not be base models, but that does not mean that the currently available Spyder RS/GT4 RS will continue to be available.

I'd like to create something even more limited edition based on these.large profitIt may be about to be sold.

In any case, it seems like it will no longer be an ICE model that can be easily purchased, but even so, let's stick to our decision for a little longer.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks this (lol).
