It's a fake sound, but it's a real V8 engine sound.
It is said to be released soonPorsche's fully electric Cayenne.
It has been reported (although this is not an official announcement) that this EV Cayenne will "use simulated V8 engine sounds."

British media outlet Autocar was held in the UK recently.Goodwood Festival of SpeedWhile test driving the newly-released Cayenne EV, the sound coming from the speakers was said to be that of a V8 engine.
Moreover, the sound was said to be "the sound of a real Porsche V8 engine."

In other words, since it is an electric car, it should not actually make the sound of a V8 engine, so it is a fake sound, but since this fake sound is a recording of the sound of a real Porsche V8 engine, the sound itself is not fake...
It's complicated though (lol).
Porsche's fully electric vehicles, the Taycan and Macan EV, which have already been mass-produced, both feature sounds that they have developed themselves, and these sounds are somehow cosmic and new, and are not the sound of an internal combustion engine.
If the speakers in the new Cayenne EV emit the sound of an internal combustion engine, something never before heard in Porsche electric vehicles, then perhaps the Cayenne EV will be promoted in a way that is different from previous electric vehicles.

By the way, "fake gears" that are deliberately used to simulate gear shifting are considered "fake" in the eyes of Porsche, so they do not appear to be used in this model.
Previously, Porsche development driver Lars KernIn 2024, to Australian mediaPorsche has said that it will not develop fake gear shifts for its EVs, so it is unlikely that fake gears will be used in the future. Probably.
In fact, it is unclear whether the V8 engine sound that was installed in the test drive car at the Goodwood Festival of Speed will actually be used when the Cayenne EV is finally released, but even if it is, it seems that Porsche is saying, "We'll just create the (internal combustion engine) sound, but we're not going to fake it."

By the way, even if the V8 engine sound is adopted, I think it will be possible to switch to the V8 sound as an option, so I don't think it will necessarily be a V8 sound forever.
When I drive a Porsche electric car, I don't get that strange "Wow, that's an electric car" feeling. In fact, after driving it for a while I tend to forget that it's an electric car, so if I were to add the Cayenne's ICE sound to the mix, my simple brain might just assume it's a gasoline car (laughs).
