What is a panoramic roof with sunshine control?
The other day, when I suddenly saw an image of Porsche Taycan GTS, I wondered, "What is this?"
That is the Taycan GTS sunroof (panoramic roof).
When the Taycan GTS was announced at the end of last year, I could not really see the details properly (Maybe I was busy at BMW's stamp rally Shuraba (laughs)), I didn't see this panoramic roof at all.
This panoramic sunroof that caught my eye now had a design of "What's this?", So I was curious and examined it ^ ^
When I looked it up, this was called a "panoramic roof with sunshine control", so to speak, a sunroof with electronically controlled blinds.
A film containing liquid crystal called PDLC technology (Polymer Dispersed Liquid Cristal) is used, and a mechanism in which an electric current flows through it.
As a result, the liquid crystal is aligned in a fixed shape in milliseconds with a small AC voltage, so that the glass on the roof becomes transparent, and conversely, when no current is flowing, the glass becomes opaque (the liquid crystal does not align). To be in a chaotic state).
Although this technology is a technology that has been commonly used in places other than cars, it seems that this Taycan GTS is the first to be applied to the automobile field.
As expected, the highlight is Porsche (Oh, this was a phrase from a different manufacturer ^ ^).
This LCD film is divided into 9 sections, which are electronically controlled:
- Completely transparent (clear)
- Completely opaque (matte)
- Transparent and opaque combination technique (semi, bold)
It is possible to make a sunroof. Semi and bold seem to be the default patterns where either the transparent or the opaque part is wider, respectively.
Furthermore, dynamic roller blind motion is also possible, and when you slide the panoramic roof of the touch screen (what is the image?) With your finger, it seems that the sunroof also slides transparently and opaquely with the same motion. ..
By the way, when the car stops (= it seems to mean a stop where the engine is turned off), the glass automatically switches to an opaque state, and the last roof setting before the engine stopped is saved, so restart again. When you do, the last setting will be applied.
Since this panoramic roof with sunshine control has a multi-layer structure, it seems to have a better heat shielding effect against heat than conventional glass roofs.
According to the measurement by the solar simulation of Porsche Development Center in Weissach, only 15% of heat can enter the car through this sunroof. By the way, the conventional roof is more than 30%.
Even if the roof is opaque, the brightness does not decrease at all, and twice as much light is taken into the car as compared to the conventional roof.
This panoramic roof with sunshine control, I want to see & experience the place where it is actually operating someday ... Oh, I thought that it is a different function that I want to experience only for Taycan ^ ^
In Germany, it is said that it is an option of 5,045 euros (about 690,000 yen), but when I looked at the Taycan GTS with a Japanese configurator earlier, this option did not come out.
It may not be possible to choose now (in the current situation of the world). * As of April 26, 2022
