Play with Porsche 718 Cayman

Rent a Porsche 718 Cayman

I rented a Porsche 718 Cayman for a day drive from Tokyo to Ise Jingu, and I enjoyed Cayman to my heart's content!

This time it's a big deal, so I'd like to record that I enjoyed Cayman at that time ^ ^

I borrowed the Porsche 718 Cayman's left steering wheel PDK. Even though it was a rental car, it also had a sports exhaust (actually, it was standard equipment. I didn't know about it), and it also came with a sports chrono package. happy.

What's more, it's a fairly new product that has only traveled 5,400km.

Cayman, this is my first time driving, but I've seen it many times before, so I was familiar with it from the beginning. Cayman especially likes the back view.

The white color was also very elegant and lovely. It was so good.

Is it here that I thought "Hey" when I took a closer look at Cayman? This line next to the front headlights ↓

This is more sharp than I expected, and it is not a curved rounded line with no steps, but a line that is really steep.

Can you see it from the inside of the car? It looks like this ↓

Of course, the shape of the headlights themselves is different from that of the 911, so the headlights are already overtly different ...

In addition to the obvious differences, the design that stands out at these key points may give a different impression from the 911.

For me, who is accustomed to 911, these spicy lines looked very fresh (there are lines around the 911 headlights along the headlights, but these straight lines Not because).

* This time, I am comparing it with the Porsche 911 late 991 model, but when it comes to 992, there are two straight press lines on the front, so the impression when compared with 992 may change a little. Isn't it ^^

Is the engine start sound of 718 Cayman like GT3?

When I started the Cayman engine, I thought that the first momentary sound when I started the engine was more like GT3 than 911 Carrera.

When I started the engine and started running from there, the engine sound was "Cayman's sound", which was completely different from that of 911 Carrera and that of GT3.

However, only the moment I start the engine for the first time, it makes a sound like "Dog!", Rather like when the GT3 engine is started.

I liked the throating sound when starting this engine ^^

The sound after that is, well, I don't know how to express it, but it's completely different from 911! ... But, when I stepped on it, I felt that it was a "low-pitched, roaring sound."

Later, the Cayman owner said, "It's an engine that has a rougher and more unpleasant taste than Carrera," and I am convinced that the sound is well described because it is the owner. is.

Yes, in a very good sense, it is a "miscellaneous engine sound", and I thought that it would be good for Cayman's character again ^ ^

Personally, I can conclude that I like the sound of 911, but Cayman made a rather noisy roar when he stepped in, so it was fun ^ ^

Somehow, every time I step on it, it becomes a mess, so from the people around me, I think that "That Porsche looks really fast!" I mean. Hmm, I can't express it (laughs)!

718 Cayman's sports exhaust sound difference

This car, sports exhaust was attached this time.

... but that? Isn't the tail pipe out of two centers? I thought, and when I checked it with the configurator, I had to select the "sports tail pipe" option in order to put out two centers.

And what surprised me most was that in the case of the 718 Cayman, the sports exhaust is standard equipment. is that so. I didn't know ~.

Well, that's why the sports exhaust system was attached as standard equipment, so I turned it on and off and compared the difference in sound.

But I'm still running only 5,400km, and maybe the rented one has never turned on the sports exhaust? I don't know, but I couldn't really feel the difference between when it was turned on and when it was turned off.

Of course, there are some differences. However, when I turned the sports exhaust on and off with my 911, there was a more obvious difference in sound, but this time Cayman's Spoeki seems to be like "Hmm? Doesn't it make that much difference?" I see.

After all, I wonder if it's because it wasn't used yet. How is it?

By the way, out of the total of about 900 km that I ran while renting this Cayman this time, probably about 899 km was all running with Spoeki ON, so the sound is getting better a little. I think it's good ^^

Porsche 718 Cayman tire pressure is the same before and after

The tires are Pirelli's Pzero.

Again, I'm addicted to seeing the tire pressure immediately from inside the car, so I was surprised to see the Cayman tire pressure value.

Yes, the tire pressure was the same for all four wheels.

In the case of 911, the rear wheels are set higher than the front wheels, so I suddenly became anxious and immediately confirmed, "Oh? This is all the same!"

… Then, oh oh. What! Cayman has the same tire pressure and recommended front and rear settings! !! ↓

That's surprising. Is this what happens with a mid-engined car? ?? I don't know how difficult it is, but anyway, I was impressed by the discovery that "it's the same before and after!"

When I drove the Cayman, I thought that it was fun to step on this car.

It's fun enough to run normally, but if you step on it a little at high speed, the number of revolutions will rise to 7,000 to 7,500 at once, and it will accelerate with a tremendous roar.

Of course, if you continue to step on at full throttle, the speed will increase steadily, but if you run a little distance at full throttle, the number of revolutions will rise at once even before the speed rises to that level, and it will be as it is. It makes a fun sound and makes me feel like "It's kind of fast!" It was fun ^^

No, even in the city, by really stepping on until the next traffic light, it's about 3,000 to 4,000 rotations in the city! It was good to enjoy it. My Cayman is so noisy when moving from signal to signal (laughs).

I'm sorry for the strange way of enjoying ... but it was fun ...

Porsche Sport Response Button

By the way, this car also comes with a sports chrono package.

In other words, it has a dial that can be changed to "normal, sports mode, sports plus mode" and a "sports response button" in the center! ↓

As I wrote in the previous blog, the sports response button is

At the push of a button, the drivetrain settings are changed in preparation for maximum acceleration for 20 seconds. When this sports response button is activated, the optimum gear is selected and engine management is adjusted to react even sharper at a specific time.

It is a dream-like fun button that Porsche maximizes power and accelerates for 20 seconds after pressing the button.

Why the Porsche 911 GT3 doesn't have a sports response button

My 911 Carrera doesn't have a sports chrono, and the GT3 is a sports chrono, but it doesn't have this button.

What isn't it? I was wondering, and when I asked someone like my Porsche teacher, he said that this button raises the boost pressure = boosts, so it is not in NA cars. Therefore, 991.1 does not have this 20-second button, but instead has a mode changeover switch (button) for switching to (?) Sport Plus.

I see. It may be obvious when I was told, but I had never thought about it. Convinced. That's why GT3 doesn't have this button.

I thought, "GT3 doesn't need a button, but if you step on it anytime, it's ready in the MAX state, so you don't need a button, I'm sure!" It's too appropriate (laughs).

So what I mean by that is that I've never used this button. So this time, I was really looking forward to this "20 seconds" that I could experience for the first time.

How is it different from just stepping on in normal mode? While thinking about it, change to Sports Plus mode and click the button. Of course, with the accelerator fully open.

Oh oh, the number of revolutions goes up at once again, and it accelerates at once! The feeling of acceleration is different. pleasant! !! Hmmmm, it's not fun, this is it! !! !! !!

I thought it would be impossible to run at full throttle for 20 seconds under Japanese law, because if you were in good shape, you would get a lot of speed. "I want to keep stepping, but I have to keep stepping on ..." After all, in order to ride Porsche in Japan, there is always a fight with reason ^ ^

Therefore, although I had a good time for 20 seconds, I was sad that I wasted a few seconds, but I was able to enjoy the feeling of acceleration within 20 seconds, and this again. The same narcotic feeling as when launch controlIt was fun.

By the way, when fully opened in normal mode and when fully opened after pressing this sports response button in this sports plus mode, the speed starts from the same speed and the speed reaches 20 km / h within the same number of seconds. It was so different ... it was like that.

In simple terms (not the actual number), for example, when the same number of seconds is fully opened, it accelerates to about 100 km / h under normal conditions, but if the same number of seconds is fully opened with the sports response button, the speed is It feels like reaching up to about 120km.

Anyway, it's fun, so every time the road opens, I click the button and gogogo! And fully open! !! It was a repetition of (laughs). Ah fun.

I thought my car didn't have this button and it was the correct answer. If there is, I will use it too much.

Besides, I enjoyed doing various things ^^ No, it was fun. 718 Cayman, really plenty, plenty, I enjoyed it!

718 Cayman How to set and remove the speed limit

This time, I think that the car rental company was set for safety, but when I reached the speed (set by the car rental company in advance) like this, "I exceeded the limit 1" I also learned for the first time that there is a function that warns me (the limit seems to be set in 2 steps, 1 and 2).

When this warning came out, I was shocked for a moment and I loosened the accelerator, so I felt the meaning of the warning and thought that it was important to do something like this ... but I warned many times. When it comes out, it says "I already understand!" (Laughs), so I really wanted to release it.

However, I couldn't release it because I couldn't figure it out just by playing with it on the spot.

Select "Vehicle"-> "Limit"-> "Limit 1 or Limit 2" from the main menu to change the speed at which the warning is issued.

Alternatively, you can stop issuing the warning by selecting "Stop speed limit" in "Valid".

is what they said.

Let's remember for the next time ...

Interior of Porsche 718 Cayman

After that, that's right, the interior, or the interior of the car, was not so different from the 911 Carrera, and I was able to use it just like riding a 911 normally.

On the contrary, it is so similar that I wonder what is different from Carrera.

The design of the air conditioner outlet (and its upper part) is different, so there was a difference in the overall atmosphere from that point ... but it's within the margin of error.

Oh yeah, when backing up, the screen also displayed a view of the vehicle from above. If something gets too close to the front, back, left or right of the car, you can rest assured that a warning sound will be emitted along with the overall picture of this car.

And yes, what is completely different from the usual 911 is that there is a trunk behind.

At first, I wasn't used to it, so when I accidentally put something away, I unknowingly went to the front of the car and wanted to put things only in the front, but once I started using the back trunk, this again It was convenient and very good.

The lack of a backseat is also a big difference from the 911.

Around the position where the back seat should be, I thought, "This, even Cayman can put the woofer on the 911 in this space" ^ ^

In addition, there was a place under the rear window on the side where you could put a little thing on both the left and right sides.

718 Cayman, I have no complaints at all, Cayman is one of the best Porsche that I can really enjoy as a Cayman! !! I thought ^^

The only thing my husband said, "This is a little tricky," is that I can hardly recline the seat.

In the case of a day trip for long-distance driving this time, the person sitting in the passenger seat was reclining because he said "Let's take turns sleeping properly" so that he can drive safely the next time he changes driving. However, it seems that it was a little painful that I could only do it to a certain extent (No, I can hardly do it (laugh)).

However, I think that there are few people who usually use Cayman to sleep in the car, so I wonder if this is also a problem. And ^^

Porsche 718 Cayman. It was a very fun car.

While being able to run through while making a roaring sound, it was a safe and stable run, and it was wonderful enough to run safely even in heavy rain.

It was good to be able to ride a lot of Cayman. Even though it's a rental car, I love it.

This Cayman had a mileage of 5,400km when I rented it. The distance at the time of returning is 6,300 km.

I ran a lot of 900km. It was good to be able to rent it. Thank you ^^

And thank you Cayman for a good time!
