Porsche: Porsche

The Porsche 911 GT3 S/C does not allow simultaneous selection of a large-capacity fuel tank and 18-way adjustable sports seats (US specification).

Regarding the specifications of the Porsche 911 GT3 S/C in the United States

Once again, you might be wondering, "What are you doing?" but this happened when I was trying to create a Porsche 911 GT3 S/C using the American Porsche configurator (seriously, what am I doing (lol)?).

I wanted to write about something I discovered that made me think, "Huh, why?"

Since the GT3 S/C is a GT3 that can also be converted into a convertible, I had the impression that it was a model that allowed you to enjoy driving in a luxurious way, even though it is a GT3, so I chose regular seats instead of bucket seats.

Moreover, in my case, 4-way adjustment is sufficient (and it's more convenient because I can quickly move the seat forward and backward), so I thought 4-way would be fine... but then I saw the option for "seat ventilation," and since it's a convertible, I thought I should add it, so I clicked to select seat ventilation.

Then, it turned out that in order to include seat ventilation, I had to go with the 18-way adaptive sports seat plus, so I ended up with the 18-way seat.

Well, that's okay, I thought, and readily accepted it, moving on to the next thing.

And towards the end, I found an item called "Extended Range Fuel Tank (22.1 gal.)".

Oh, so if it's the American specification, you can get an option to increase the fuel tank capacity!

I'll definitely put it on. Because even though it's a GT3, in my mind it's a car I'll use for long-distance drives and things like that.

A large-capacity fuel tank is very convenient.

Even so, I used to hear it was a 90L tank, but 22.1 gallons is about 83.66 liters. So it's not quite 90L anymore, is it?

so!

The problem... or rather, the surprising realization, started here.

The moment I clicked to select this larger capacity gasoline tank option, guess what happened.

"The large-capacity fuel tank option and the 18-way adjustable sports seats (and seat ventilation) cannot be selected at the same time," so the 18-way adjustable seat option was dropped.

What?! How does adding a gas tank affect the seat options?!

At first I thought, "Hmm, maybe it's because the larger size of the gasoline tank would interfere with the electric mechanism or something that moves the seat near the tank, making it impossible to place?" But I didn't think that was the correct answer either, so I did some research.

Then,Overseas forumsThe article stated that if you install this large-capacity tank (which is referred to as a 90L tank here) and an 18-way seat at the same time, it will add nearly 30kg of weight according to DIN70020 standards, exceeding the weight range permitted by WLTP/RDE certification.

Therefore, these two cannot be selected simultaneously, and it's not a technical problem where they physically interfere with each other.

So that's it.

Incidentally, upon closer inspection, I noticed a note in the description of the gasoline tank options stating, "The 18-way seat cannot be selected simultaneously with the GT3 S/C."

Is it because it would exceed the (allowed) weight limit?

Incidentally, out of curiosity, I tried configuring it with a regular GT3 (with a spoiler) instead of the S/C version, and it seems that with those, the large-capacity fuel tank and 18-way adjustable seats can be selected simultaneously.

Moreover, the GT3 actually has a lighter listed weight than the GT3 S/C... Hmm, well, this is just speculation, but perhaps the weight range for WLTP/RDE certification is different for the S/C and is more stringent?

Porsche hasn't given an official explanation, so I can't say for sure what the truth is, but I was surprised that this large-capacity fuel tank and 18-way adjustable seats couldn't be selected at the same time, so I decided to write about it.

The overseas and Japanese specifications differ in terms of standard equipment, so it was a fun time configuring the car, with lots of discoveries along the way!
