How to attach Porsche 911 grille badge
At Laguna Seca, which I went on the end of September, 2023,Rennsport Reunion 7 Event,I purchased a grille badge for my Porsche 911 (992.1) for the first time.
This is what I bought. ↓
I've seen some air-cooled Porsches with those grille badges before, and I just found out that recently the Heritage series sold by Porsche have also grille badges like this. That is the reason why I started to have an interest to those grill badges.
For example, this badge is on the Porsche Sports Classic↓
I wanted to add a grille badge to my 911 Carrera T, but I just don't know how.
So I brought my car to my Porsche dealer.
I brougt my Porsche and a grill badge and said "I want to attached this grill badge but I don't know how. Please help!"
A grill badge I bought originally came with those parts below:
- grill badge
- 2 long rods with screws
- 2 nuts
- 1 plate to be inserted on the back side
When I showed those to my Porsche dealer, they told me that "If you don't tighten the long screws properly, it will come loose, so please tighten them firmly with double nuts."
I just had no idea what they are taking about. Then, Porsche dealer did it for me, ha ha. Thank you so much.
I thought I will have to screw them to a grill and done, but dealer told me that when I attache it to grills, I should firmly tighten each parts using double nuts again.
Since this grill badge came with 2 nuts, I will have to have 2 more extra nuts then.
I had no idea where such small nuts were sold, but after doing some research and asking around, I found a store in Akihabara that specializes in screws, so I bought them there. 44 yen for two ^^
OK, now all the parts I need are setteled. There are 4 nuts. The nut size was 5mm.
At this point, I've got 4 nuts, but still cluless.
So that I went to my Porsche dealer again, and my friendly sales person did attached my grill badge to my car.
First, put it on the grill ↓
Ah, by the way, if you attache a badge directly, there is a possibility that the grill itself will have scratches, etc by the grill badge, so that it is better to put something between the grill and a badge. I used thin rubber, placed between grills and a badge.
Using two nuts for each rods, they firmly fixed to the grille badge.
The finished grill badge looks like this. It's beautiful. The top and bottom are firmly fixed, and it doesn't seem to come loose with double nuts.
It looks like this when viewed from the side.
This is what it looks like when you raise the grill and look from the side.
It was attached to the 4th to 6th grille from the right, the same as the Sports Classic.
Furthermore, the Sports Classic was attached to one more lower level below the top, but with the long screw rod that came with this grille badge, it could only be attached in this position, so it was attached here.
I am very satisfied with this.
Even after I got home, I looked at it and thought, ``It's great,'' feeling self-satisfied.
I am so gratefurl for my Sales person at my Porsche dealer to do this for me.
Thank you very much!
By adding the grill badge that I got at Laguna Seca to my Carrera T, I feel like it became even more adorable and I just love it.
Happy~^^
