JDPower's Initial Quality Study (IQS)
In the "2026 Initial Quality Study (IQS)" conducted by the American research firm JD Power and published on June 25, 2026, Porsche achieved the highest ranking (overall top) among all automobile brands.
In addition, the Porsche 911 received the highest score in the premium sports car category. This marks the second consecutive year that the 911 has achieved the top position in this category.
The IQS (Industrial Quality Score) is a survey that measures vehicle quality based on the number of problems reported per 100 vehicles (PP100) during the first 90 days after vehicle ownership. A lower score indicates higher vehicle quality.
This year marks the 40th annual JD Power U.S. Initial Quality Study. This year's results are based on responses from more than 78,000 new car buyers and leasers for the 2026 model year.
The subjects of the survey are:
- Infotainment
- Functions, operation, and display
- Exterior
- Driver assistance systems
- Interior
- Power train
- Sheet
- Driving experience
- air conditioning
- Repair-specific items (unspecified)
This refers to 10 vehicle categories, based on data collected from June 2025 to May 2026.
The following is the overall brand ranking, and Porsche proudly takes first place with the highest score of "138 PP100".
It also ranked first in the premium sports car category. Its PP100 score there was 110 PP100, compared to the average of 175 PP100.
And what's more, it's also been selected as the Highest Initial Quality Model among all models! ↓
In an evaluation of each brand's factories, two Porsche factories received the Gold Plant Quality Award in the Europe & Africa category.
It's amazing that both the Leipzig and Stuttgart factories have received Gold certification!
Incidentally, this survey revealed that the number of reported defects in new vehicles improved from 192 PP100 in the previous year to 175 PP100. This is the best improvement rate since 1997 and the fourth best performance in IQS's 40-year history.
