The unexpected Porsche x Lovebu and Sonderwunsch's first Cayenne

Two cars on display at Icons of Porsche

Several Porsche models were on display at the fifth Icons of Porsche 2025 event held in Dubai, and this time we will be looking at two of them.

Porsche x Lovebu

The first one is a collaboration between Porsche and artist Kasing Lung, who created the Labubu, which became a huge hit last year.

So, if that collaboration is to happen, it would be "Porsche and Lovebu."

I was quite surprised that this collaboration came to fruition, as I had the impression that Porsche doesn't collaborate with trendy items like this (sorry to say that...).

This project is said to represent Porsche's evolution as a cultural brand rather than just a car manufacturer.

And this is a bit trivial, but when I first heard the name "Lovebu," I immediately assumed it was a name derived from "LOVE" and was pronounced "Lavuvu" (because the first time I heard it, it was spelled Lovebu in katakana). But then I found out it was "Labubu," which was also a bit surprising.

No, it's really a trivial matter (lol).

Now, this collaboration between Lovebu and Porsche marks the 10th anniversary of Lovebu's series "The Monsters," so it also marks a double anniversary: the 10th anniversary of "The Monsters" and the 60th anniversary of the Porsche 911 Targa.

The item announced this time is a metal art sculpture (approximately 40 cm tall) of the character "King Mon" riding in a Porsche 911 Targa.

This is a limited edition of 60 units worldwide and is scheduled to go on sale in 2026.

The other is an art car based on a real car, a 992 Porsche 911 Targa with a giant Lovebu wearing a T-shirt sitting in the driver's seat.

The design is also a special Lovebu style by Kasing Lung.

By the way, Porsche and Lovebu have already collaboratedIt was also exhibited at Porsche NOW in Taipei in March 2025.That's right.

I did not know!

By the way, if you have time, please take a look at our Lovebu here.

My second daughter had said she wanted one a while back, and a friend of ours who lives in America and is like family to us, went out of her way to buy it and bring it all the way to Japan.

For this reason, the Lovebu in our household also reminds us of our close friends and their families.

Sonderwunsch project for the first Cayenne: a 70s look

The other car is a Sonderwunsch project based on the first-generation Cayenne.

The category is called "Factory Re-Commission." Is there a category called Sonderwunsch?

I still don't understand the full picture. It's so deep...

What is Sonderwunsch's Factory Re-Commission?

This "factory recommission" involves customizing a car that the owner already owns at a factory. The unique feature of this is that it requires a complete customization, and after an evaluation to see if what is desired is technically possible, if it is OK, the vehicle is brought to Zuffenhausen, an estimate is given, and the car is remanufactured.

In the past, this time-consuming process of "rebuilding a car to the owner's specifications to make it like new" has only been reserved for rare models such as classic Porsches and Carrera GTs, so it seems that its adoption for the Cayenne this time was very special.

The Cayenne's owner is businessman and avid car collector Phillip Sarofim.

The theme requested by the owner was "911 Spirit 70 x first-generation Cayenne," and he asked that the first-generation Cayenne be given a 1970s look, in keeping with the strong impression left by the 911 Spirit 70.

The reason he chose the Cayenne is because his dream is to travel across Dubai's Rub' al Khali desert in an Airstream (a towable camper trailer). Hmm, the dream beyond Sonderwunsch is just as grand!

The base car is a 2009 Cayenne GTS, and this car already has a mileage of approximately 80,500 km.

The exterior finish is PTS's Black Olive color, with matte black wheels and lower panels. Off-road tires are installed, and a US-standard hitch (for towing) is added.

What is Leather to Sample?

The interior color concept is English Green, which is also a special color...oh, and here's another new word.

That's "Leather to Sample."

What? Just like Paint to Sample (PTS), there is also a term called Leather to Sample (LTS) for leather?

So the LTS allows you to choose the leather color from a special range of colors that are not normally available as options.

When it comes to Sonderwunsch, it always seems like Porsche casually reveals all sorts of unknown things (lol), but anyway, the interior of this car uses the same colors as the LTS and the 911's iconic Pasha pattern (black x olive) on the seats and glove box.

The details are finished in light brushed aluminum, and the overall interior and exterior have a unified look that combines 70s retro with modern Porsche.

The Cayenne, which first appeared in 2002, was already beginning to be treated as a "Youngtimer," so Porsche's project to restore a 16-year-old car to like-new condition seems to signify that the first-generation Cayenne has already been elevated to a status of cultural value.

Porsche is the best because it is truly committed to helping its owners make their dreams come true.

However, owners have to work very hard to pay the price to turn their Porsche into an even more dream car (lol)...so it's a Porsche that makes you want to work hard to make your dreams come true (probably).
