A skateboarder recorded a speed of 151.83 km/h while standing downhill.
Red Bull skateboarder Diego Poncelet Sanchez-Cuenca from Spain achieved a record on September 22, 2026, by sliding down a steep, winding road in Les Éboulements, Quebec, Canada, at a speed of 151.83 kilometers per hour.

Until now, the fastest skateboarding record was held by his friend, Peter Connolly from the UK, at 146.73 km/h, but he has now broken that record and set a new all-time record.
What's amazing is that this is a record set on a skateboard, meaning a person riding a board and sliding downhill at over 151 kilometers per hour... terrifying.

Diego, who set this record, was born in Mexico City and raised in Spain and Switzerland. He says he was drawn to the sport after seeing skateboarders speeding down the roads as a child.

To achieve the feat of setting the fastest record, he collaborated with expert engineers to design a suit and skateboard that would be as fast as possible while minimizing air resistance.
His skateboard has a carbon fiber kit attached to the top, designed to optimize airflow around his feet (and is approved by the international competition organization World Skate).

The base of the skateboard was apparently a conventional deck, but these aerodynamic "fairings" (or shells) were added to maintain stability and safety.
Apparently, this fairing is necessary for high-speed riding, but it's not usually seen in professional competitions because the courses aren't as long as this one (2.5 km).
Prada and Porsche are also sponsoring this challenge. Indeed, if you look at his suit, you can see "PRADA" on it!

Then, the Porsche followed Diego from directly behind as he sped down the hill, filming him. It's quite frightening to watch...
Watching the video, it looks like they're filming him sliding down the slope at around 150 km/h from really close up, and I was on the edge of my seat wondering if Diego would be okay if he fell.

Of course, I think that if it crashed at this speed, it would be a serious problem even if the Porsche wasn't involved, but it's even more nerve-wracking knowing there's a car right behind it.
Even if you fall, your body will probably continue moving forward or sideways, not backward... but I don't know what kind of safety measures were actually taken, but it's scary to watch.

I heard that Diego's family was also there, but if it was his family, I wouldn't be able to watch it at all.
Incidentally, Diego's mother reportedly joked that she might need the ambulance that was waiting at the scene for herself. Well, you can't help but think that, right?

On this day, Diego apparently did a total of seven runs (what?!), and his fastest record by the end of the morning, after six runs, was 148.27 km/h on his fourth run.
At this point, I was able to break my friend's speed record, thus earning a Guinness World Record.

But not content with that, he waited for a good afternoon breeze to make one last attempt to achieve his personal goal of 150 km/h.
It achieved a top speed of 151.83 km/h.

I'm glad that the record was successfully achieved, but I'm truly amazed at the variety of things people are challenging themselves with.
I also think the Porsche driver who managed to film this real human being sliding at incredible speed while staying extremely close behind him is amazing.

Anyway, congratulations!
