Porsche 911 GT3 R "Samurai Rex": The legendary samurai Porsche that is the ancestor of Rexy.

Posted: Posted:

I heard that a certain rare Porsche was on display at Porsche Studio Ginza from Thursday, September 3rd to Saturday, September 5th, 2026, so I couldn't resist and went there on the very first day.

This is the Porsche in question.

I've missed you!

Yes, this Porsche is the 911 GT3 R "Bushi Rex"! It's intimidating!

Before discussing Bushi Rex, I'd like to first talk about AO Racing, an American sports car racing team. AO Racing competes in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), and other series.

This team is famous for its Porsche livery called "Rexy," which features a dinosaur motif.

I think many people have probably seen it at least once.

This green one is what's known as "Rexy" ↓

And this pink one is "Roxy" ↓

Furthermore, there's also something called a Skeleton...↓

There's also a car called Sketchy ↓

And the character I had the pleasure of meeting this time was "Bushi Rex," who is actually a legendary samurai and a distant ancestor of the green Rexy.

Did you know that?

Apparently, when Rexy visited Japan in 2023 to participate in the World Endurance Championship (WEC), he researched his roots.

And the fact that he learned there was that his family line was connected to the legendary samurai clan, the "Rex Family Samurai Clan."

It is said that the greatest warrior in that family was "Bushi Rex."

In response to this fact, and as AO Racing is taking part in the Suzuka 1,000km race for the first time, the legendary samurai Porsche, "Bushi Rex," has been revived, as if in response to the call of its descendant, Rexy.

...You probably think this is a story I just made up, right?

That's not right!

AO Racing has confirmed this, so this Bushi Rex is, without a doubt, the ancestor of the Rexy (lol)!

Look at this family crest (probably) that has been passed down through the Rex Family Samurai Clan.

This part alone looks a little scary, Bushi Rex↓

It looks a bit like a monster. It has a powerful presence that seems to embody the spirit of a samurai who has lived for many years.

For this Suzuka 1,000km race, AO Racing will not be bringing their IMSA team from the United States to Japan as is, but will instead be teaming up with Absolute Racing, which has extensive GT racing experience in Asia.

AO Racing will be bringing together drivers who have competed together in IMSA, along with Absolute Racing's extensive experience and racing structure, to take on the Suzuka 1,000km race with this Porsche called "Bushi Rex."

The entry name is "AO by Absolute".

Bushi Rex will be participating in the '2026 Intercontinental GT Challenge Round 4, 50th SUZUKA 1000kmThe event will be held at Suzuka Circuit from September 11th to 13th, 2026.

Bushi Rex is No. 8.

If you have the time, why not go and watch the race in Suzuka?

By the way, the Carrera Cup Japan will also be held there!

But before that, if you want to meet Bushi Rex in Tokyo, please do so by September 5th.Porsche Studio GinzaPlease go and check it out.

You can see Bushi Rex up close!

Personally, I wanted to see the "GT3 Gaoh" written under the wing, so it was great to be able to see this.

Wow, as expected of Bushi Rex, a warrior from the legendary samurai clan.

It was incredibly powerful, yet also cute and cool.

I'm looking forward to seeing you do well at Suzuka, and I'll be cheering you on!

Also, until September 5th, Porsche Studio Ginza is exhibiting not only the Bushi Rex but also the 'Absolute Racing No.7'.

This rainbow-colored livery is also a special, one-time-only livery from "Bosch Motorsport".

This Porsche, with its rainbow colors, was both cute and cool.

Oh, and also, if you visit Porsche Studio Ginza between September 3rd and 5th and follow (or are following) Porsche Studio Ginza's Instagram account, you will receive a sticker set featuring past racing cars to commemorate Porsche Motorsport's 75th anniversary.

I also received one, thank you! (※Since there were two of us, these are photos of two sets) ^^

If you have some free time this weekend, why not go and meet Bushi Rex?

Thank you to Porsche Studio Ginza for letting us see these two wonderful Porsches up close!
