July 21, 2025: California opens in Los Angeles
Tesla has opened a new charging station in Los Angeles, California, USA, that is a little different from the ones that have come before, and it was apparently one of Elon Musk's dreams from the beginning.
This new type of charging station is called a "diner."

Hmm, I love American diners so this is a bit interesting.

In order to run an electric car, it needs to be "charged," which is similar to refueling a gasoline car, but charging is a bit of a hassle, and unlike simply pouring gas into the car, it takes a much longer time to charge.

So it has long been said that to make EVs attractive to consumers, they need fast charging, or at least a way to make charging times more tolerable.
Even back when fast charging technology wasn't as advanced as it is today, Tesla's Elon Musk had two passionate dreams for the widespread use of EVs. The first of these was:
- Converting oil change stations, which Elon thought would disappear as EVs became widespread, into battery change stations.
Simply go to the station, park your car, and a team of mechanics will remove the used battery pack from your car and quickly install a new one, so your car can continue driving.

And the second dream was first proposed in 2018:
- Tesla's charging stations will also double as diners, allowing customers to enjoy snacks, arcade games, or movies while their cars charge.
This marks the realization of Elon's second dream.
A new Tesla charging station in LA is called the Tesla Diner, and it's a throwback to a bygone era.
It was designed by Franz von Holzhausen, chief designer of all Tesla vehicles, including the Tesla Model S, Model 3, and Cybertruck. The building has a retro feel, with stainless steel Cybertruck-like features.

There is also a 20m high screen that can be seen from the balcony, and during the day it shows short films, animations, and strange, futuristic(?) screensavers, and from 9pm it shows a feature film.
The content shown on these screens can also be viewed from inside your Tesla using Skypad or the Tesla Diner app.

Tesla Diner has over 250 seats and is open 24 hours a day.
It also has a parking lot that can accommodate over 100 cars and 80 supercharger stations.
The car park is covered with a solar canopy, making charging more sustainable.

What's on offer at Tesla Diner
Tesla Diner's menu offers classic American foods such as tuna melts (which are apparently very popular), hot dogs, cheeseburgers, grilled cheese, chili cups, apple pie, shakes, and more.

In terms of price, a simple hamburger (Tesla Burger) costs $13.50, and fries on the side cost about $4.
The food is served in Cybertruck-shaped boxes, which may appeal to Tesla fans.

Other items on sale include a hoodie ($95) and Supercharged Gummies (what's that?) for $35. What does $35 for gummies mean?
Before the diner opened, Elon tried every dish on the menu and demanded that everything be the best. Currently, the only item on the menu that has been tagged as "best" is the bacon with maple syrup.
...But it's just bacon with maple syrup (lol). That's typical of America. But if it was crispy, it would definitely be delicious.

By the way, at the bar, a humanoid robot will be handing out popcorn and giving high-five gestures.
There is also a mini museum of Tesla's humanoid robots in the center of the building, with three robots displayed in display cases.

Currently, orders can only be placed in-store or directly from inside the car, but Tesla says that in the near future, orders will be able to be placed in advance without having to go to the store using its new geofencing technology.
When ordering using this geofencing technology, once your vehicle arrives within a 15-20 minute radius of the restaurant, both the driver and the restaurant will receive a notification informing them that the order has begun to be prepared.

If you have plans to visit Los Angeles, why not stop by?
I would like to go there next time if I have the chance.
