As rumored a year ago, production will end in October 2025
This blog has already been writing since June 2024, a year ago, that production of the gasoline-engine 718 Cayman/Boxster would end in October 2025, and then in July 2024, a Porsche executive clearly stated that production would end by the end of 2025.

And now, in May 2025, Frank Wiesmann, head of product communications at Porsche Cars North America, announced that production of the fourth-generation Cayman and Boxster (982 Series) is entering the final stages, with the final production scheduled for October 2025. As a result, it seems that reports have now been made that "the end of the gasoline-engine 718!!" has confirmed the date of the end of production as of now.

The Spyder RS and GT4 RS were still on sale in Europe.
Something that was not known about this latest report is that sales of the 718 had already ended in the EU due to cybersecurity regulations, but special edition cars such as the Spyder RS and Cayman GT4 RS were exempt from the regulations because they were limited production models, and so continued to be sold in these regions.
Was it so? ?
The special measures for limited edition models are based on the rule that EU regulations do not apply to limited edition cars with an annual production volume of less than 1,500 units.

I had assumed that all 718s had been discontinued in Europe, but I had no idea that only the Spyder RS and GT4 RS were still on sale.
In fact, as of May 26, 2025, these are the only two 718 models still available on the German configurator.
By the way, regarding the fully electric vehicle that will be the successor to the gasoline-engine 718, it is still under development and will not be released before 2025. At the recent annual shareholders' meeting, Porsche CEO Oliver Blume said, "A silent sports car (i.e. an electric vehicle) will appear in the medium term."
I don't know when...
Codenamed K1: A large, seven-seater, fully electric SUV is apparently still under development
Oliver also said that the electric vehicle lineup will continue to expand as planned, which means that this was previously announced.A three-row, seven-seater fully electric SUV that's bigger than the Cayennemay still be under ongoing development.
Even though electric vehicle sales are falling short of initial forecasts, the large EV SUV (codenamed K1) may still be announced as planned, even if it's delayed.
By the way, there are currently about 60 new Boxster and Cayman cars in Porsche dealerships across the United States, but when production ends in October 2025 and the last vehicles arrive around the beginning of next year (2026), it is expected that the number of these cars in stock will not be that large.

For those who want to drive a gasoline-powered 718 Cayman/Boxster, the only options are to get a production slot between now and October, or to buy a used car that is currently available (or will be available in the future), so it's understandable that people will want to buy up any good-looking stock that's available now before the prices go up in the future!
