When I wrote about this in my blog in August, the auction had not yet begun, but now this 917K has finally been uploaded to the auction site, and the auction date for both the 917K and the Porsche 910 is the same, Saturday, January 18, 2025, so if you are interested in bidding on either or both, please do so.
In 1953, five years after the introduction of the Porsche 356, Porsche introduced the 550.
This was Porsche's first race car, and it is said that it paved the way for legendary cars such as the Porsche 906, 917, and 956.
The Porsche 910, released in the mid-1960s, is also part of that tradition; developed as a successor to the 906, the 910 was slightly shorter and lighter.
It was equipped with a horizontally opposed 6-cylinder and a horizontally opposed 8-cylinder engine, with the 6-cylinder engine producing 197 to 266 horsepower and the 8-cylinder engine producing 271 horsepower.
By the way, the 910 was apparently developed with the Ferrari Dino 206P as its target.
The 910's greatest achievement was taking first, second and third place in the 1967 Nürburgring 1000km race. Amazing.
Although the 910 was replaced by the 907 in 1967, it remained competitive in hill climb races until 1968. The ultra-lightweight 910/8 "Bergspyder" won the European Championship two years in a row.
Porsche reportedly produced 29 of these cars.
Wow, that's amazing. I can't imagine racing this car. Amazing.
The 1966 910 being auctioned is one of only 12 Short Tail cars ever produced (of which only six were registered for road use), and what's amazing about this car is that it's also the first ever 910, meaning its chassis number is "910-001."
The car comes with an extensive history file, restoration photos, and even photos of Ferry Porsche and Ferdinand Piech driving the car at the time.
Also included are valid FIA race paperwork and an FIA Historical Technical Passport, complete with a complete ownership history.
The auction date for both the aforementioned Porsche 917K from "Le Mans" and this first-ever 910 is January 18th, 2025.
I'm looking forward to the results ^^
