The 1970 Porsche 917K that appeared in the 1971 film "Le Mans" will be auctioned in the United States in January next year.
Now is your chance to buy a Porsche from Le Mans!! I don't know who I'm talking to though (lol).
This car is truly the real deal. After the movie, it was owned by various Porsche collectors, including Jerry Seinfeld, the American actor/comedian who is also famous as a Porsche collector, and is said to have continued to live on as a genuine racing car.
Porsche developed the 917 in the late 1960s with a 4.5-liter flat-12 engine, which was expanded to 4.9 liters by 1971.
The 917K was an evolution of the 1969 original, with a shorter tail and improved aerodynamics. It won 7 out of 10 races in the 1970 championship. Amazing.
After the film's release, various owners acquired the car and repainted it for racing, before it was finally meticulously restored to its iconic Gulf livery.

This 917K was last sold 24 years ago in 2000 for $1.2 million. At today's (August 18, 2024) exchange rate, it would be about 180 million yen. In August 2000, the exchange rate was 108 to 110 yen to the dollar, so if we calculate it at 110 yen, it would be about 130 million yen.
Well, now that 24 years have passed, I wonder if that amount won't be enough, but we'll see what happens.
