The fastest time was set, beating the previous record by more than 9.5 seconds.
It has been announced that the new 992.2 Porsche 911 GT3 has set a new record on the Nürburgring Nordschleife.

The record was set by Porsche brand ambassador Jörg Bergmeister, and what's most surprising is that it was set in a GT3 with a manual transmission.

The conventional wisdom until now has been that "(in models equipped with the same level of technology as current Porsches) a PDK can be driven faster than a manual," but they decided to go ahead and attempt a time attack with a manual car, and actually set a record.

Moreover, the time was more than 9.5 seconds faster than the fastest time recorded up until this time attack record was set, and that time was 6:56.294.

By the way, the fastest time to date for a manual transmission vehicle is 7:01.3, set by the Dodge Viper ACR in 2017.

Thanks to significant improvements to all performance-related components, the manual transmission 911 GT3 with the Weissach package is now 3.633 seconds faster than the previous model (992.1) with PDK, which is really impressive.

Andreas Preuninger, director of Porsche's GT model line, said that he was often asked by customers, "How fast can a manual 911 GT3 go at the Nürburgring?" and now he's finally been able to answer that question.

Despite not using PDK's super-fast and highly accurate automatic transmission, and instead using a conventional limited-slip differential rather than an electronically controlled limited-slip differential, the new 911 GT3 is said to be about 3.6 seconds faster than the previous model with PDK... but then again, they also say, "We are aware that cars with PDK are much faster."

The day of this time attack was a sunny late afternoon with an air temperature of 12 degrees and a track temperature of 27 degrees.
Under such extremely favorable conditions, the 992.2 911 GT3 (375kW/510hp) equipped with the Weissach package was driven on the 20.832km Nürburgring Nordschleife.

Like the official lap time for the previous model, the tires used on this machine are N1-certified Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires (255/35 R20 at the front, 315/30 R21 at the rear) which are legal for use on public roads.
When trying to record the official lap time this time, the target time was, of course, the best time at that time.

The time for a manual Dodge Viper ACR on the shortened version of the Nürburgring (20.6km) was 7:01.300, which translates to approximately 7:05.800 for the full course (20.832km)... and so this was the target to be achieved this time.
With a notary present, the new 911 GT3 completed the course in a time of 6:56.294, beating the previous top time by more than 9.5 seconds.

According to Jörg Bergmeister, the driver who set this record, he felt the speed at almost every corner. Furthermore, as someone who has held numerous records in cars such as the 718 Cayman GT4 RS, the 718 GT4 RS equipped with a Manthey kit, and even the 911 GT3 RS, he says he learned a lot from the previous GT3 RS, especially regarding the chassis.

Stability has been greatly improved when going over bumps and curbs, and the gear ratio has been shortened by 8%, which has resulted in a clear improvement in rear driving force during acceleration even with the same engine output.

Furthermore, it is said that if it had been a 7-speed PDK, it might have been a few seconds faster, but since it was a 6-speed MT, it was even more fun because it allowed more control during the fastest lap.
