309,884 Porsche sales in 2022
Sales figures for 2022 have been announced.
The number of new Porsche cars sold worldwide in 2022 will exceed 2021 by 3%, totaling 309,884 units.
Porsche new car sales (global)
2022 | 309,884 units |
2021 | 301,915 units |
2020 | 272,162 units |
2019 | 280,800 units |
Among them, sales in Europe amounted to 62,685 units, an increase of 7% from the previous year. In Germany alone, sales increased by 3% to 29,512 units.
North America sold 79,260 units, about the same as last year. * As will be described later, the numbers announced by Porsche AG this time are different from the numbers announced by North American Porsche (why?). Therefore, looking at how the numbers have risen from the previous year in this table ↓, it is strange.
Sales in China, the largest single market, decreased by 2% from the previous year to 93,286 units. This is mainly due to the influence of the new coronavirus.
In other regions, sales continued to be strong with approximately 45,141 units sold, an increase of 13% from the previous year.
Unit sales (January-December) | 2019 | 2020 | 2021 | 2022 | Year-on-year |
the whole world | 280,800 | 272,162 | 301,915 | 309,884 | +3% |
Europe | 88,975 | 80,892 | 86,160 | 92,197 | +7% |
Germany | 31,618 | 26,152 | 28,565 | 29,512 | +3% |
Americas | 75,367 | 69,629 | 84,657 | - | - |
USA | 61,568 | 57,294 | 70,025 | 79,260 | ?? |
Asia Pacific, Africa, Middle East | 116,458 | 121,641 | 131,098 | - | - |
China | 86,752 | 88,968 | 95,671 | 93,286 | -2% |
Other Regions & Emerging Markets | - | - | - | 45,141 | +13% |
*Until FY2021, each figure was included in "Germany is in Europe", "United States is in the Americas", and "China is in Asia-Pacific, Africa and the Middle East". The Americas” has disappeared and only the United States has disappeared, and the “Asia Pacific…” has disappeared, and it has become “China” and “Other Overseas Regions”.
After all SUV is popular
It seems that SUVs were still popular in 2022, and the best-selling model this time was the Cayenne with 95,604 units.
By the way, last year's top was the Macan (88,362 units), but in 2022, the number of Makan sales was 86,724 units, which ranked second.
model | 2022 sales volume |
Macan | 86,724 |
Cayenne | 95,604 |
Taycan | 34,801 |
911 | 40,410 |
Panamera | 34,142 |
718 | 18,203 |
Of course, the Porsche 911 is also as popular as ever, with sales increasing by 5% from the previous year to 40,410 units. The Panamera also performed well, increasing by 13% from the previous year to 34,142 units.
The remaining 718 and Taycan, but the sales volume of the 718 model (Boxster & Cayman) decreased by 12% from the previous year to 18,203 units.
Although it is said that the Taycan continues to maintain a high level of orders, it decreased by 16% from the previous year to 34,801 units, and this was due to supply chain / parts availability restrictions that particularly affected the Taycan. It is said that it depends on the situation.
North American Porsche sales in Q4 2022 and overall 2022 in North America
Next, the numbers for the fourth quarter (October-December 2021) in the United States are as follows.
In North America, Porsche sold 20,955 new cars in Q4, up 14% from the same period last year, a fairly strong figure.
model | October-December 2021 | October-December 2022 |
911 | 3,313 | 2,793 |
718 | 1,127 | 1,058 |
Taycan | 2,191 | 1,497 |
Panamera | 1,451 | 1,261 |
Cayenne | 2,191 | 6,611 |
Macan | 8,137 | 7,735 |
total | 18,410 | 20,955 |
And here is the number of new car sales in North America in 2022 (January 4, 2022 to January 3, 2023). ... but.
model | 2021 | 2022 |
911 | 10,042 | 10,204 |
718 | 4,292 | 3,484 |
Taycan | 9,419 | 7,271 |
Panamera | 4,257 | 4,224 |
Cayenne | 17,299 | 21,194 |
Macan | 24,716 | 23,688 |
total | 70,025 | 70,065 |
What is strange here is that as mentioned above, Porsche AG's North American sales in 2022 (noted as North America) are 79,260 units, but North American Porsche (PCNA)'s 2022 sales are 70,065. stand.
What is the difference between these 9,195 units? Even if the Americas other than North America are included, the numbers seem strange compared to last year.
In the first place, the total number of vehicles for 2021 announced by Porsche AG last year was "70,025", which is the same number as the North American announcement, but this time Porsche AG announced as "previous year (2021)" The number of sales has changed from what was announced last year to "79,166 units".
There is also a difference of "9,141 units" here.
Well, maybe Porsche AG's "North America" from this time is actually a mistake of "America", the breakdown is "70,065 units" in North America, "9,195 units" in Canada or South America, and the rest of Canada I wonder if South America is included in "Other regions". Hmm. Hmm.
If anyone knows, please let me know (laughs).
Anyway, Porsche 911 sales exceeded 10,000 units in North America for the second year in a row, and the decline in Taycan is said to be due to delays in delivery due to supply chain problems.
Mr. Porsche, I want you to announce the numbers in the same format every year as I am weak in numbers (lol).
