Based on the 992.1 911 Turbo S
Porsche has announced that it will sell a limited edition special model to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 911 Turbo. Pre-orders will begin in Japan on August 16, 2024.
The 992.2 Turbo model hasn't been announced yet, so I thought they would release the limited edition model first, but it turns out that this Turbo 50th Anniversary model is based on the 992.1 Turbo S. Right?
The interior and exterior are reminiscent of historic 911 Turbo models, with added styling elements that are timeless, elegant and contemporary.
An optional Heritage Design Package is also available, which is said to further refine the aesthetics of the commemorative model.
The Turbo 50th Anniversary model is a limited edition of 1,974 units, in homage to the year the 911 Turbo first appeared in 1974. I wonder if the license plate of those who get this model in Japan will be 1974?
The standard vinyl side graphics are reminiscent of the historic color scheme of the Porsche 911 RSR Turbo unveiled at the 1973 Frankfurt Motor Show.
In addition, Turbo Night, a turbo-exclusive color used on the current Turbo, is also used (as a contrast color for the rear engine cover inlay, fuel tank cap, Porsche Crest, Turbo 50 model logo, etc.).
The rear wing blades, rear apron, mirror base, and air intake trim are all in Anthracite Grey, which is another nod to the car's history.
The grille of the rear engine cover features a grille badge with a turbocharger icon and the years 1974 to 2024. When the door is opened, an image of a turbocharger is projected onto the ground by an LED door projector.
Additionally, this model comes standard with 911 Turbo S Exclusive Design wheels in Turbo Night color.
The interior has a 1970s feel
The seat cover centre panels and interior door panels feature McKenzie tartan design.
Turbo Night colour for seat belts, controls, decorative stitching, trim strips with decorative inlay in black leather and the Porsche Crest on the GT sports steering wheel.
The black brushed aluminium door kick plates feature illuminated Turbo 50 logos, while the Adaptive Sport Seats Plus headrests also feature the logo.
Above the glove box is an aluminium commemorative plaque bearing the Turbo 50 logo and the limited edition car's number.
The A-pillars, sun visors and roof lining are made of perforated Racetex, and the dashboard features a special Turbo 50 design analogue Porsche Design sub-seconds clock.
Optional Heritage Package available
There is also an optional 50 Years of Turbo Heritage Design Package, the base color of which is Aventurine Green Metallic. *You can also choose the standard 911 color or PTS.
The package features high-quality decorative graphics in white (satin finish), which are made up of three elements:
- Selectable car numbers from 0 to 99
- 50th anniversary turbo logo
- Porsche logo
If you want to simplify things, you can remove some or all of these graphics.
The front bonnet and the centre caps of the Sport Classic wheels, painted in Brilliant Silver and White (satin finish), feature the historic Porsche crest from 1964, while the Turbo 50 and Porsche logos at the rear are in gold.
The interior is further enhanced by leather additions and tartan design elements, with the classic pattern featured on the dashboard trim, glove box and seat backrest inlays.
The steering wheel features the historic Porsche crest and the storage compartment in the centre console features the Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur logo embossed in the leather.
The Heritage Design package's instrument cluster dial and Sport Chrono watch are green.
A limited edition model with outstanding performance, style and history
As mentioned above, this limited edition model is based on the 911 Turbo S, which has been produced since 2019, and its 3.7-liter flat-engine with variable turbine geometry (VTG) twin turbos produces a maximum output of 478kW (650PS) and a maximum torque of 800Nm.
The vehicle weighs 1,640 kg, the power-to-weight ratio is 2.52 kg/PS, acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is 2.7 seconds, and 0 to 200 km/h is 8.9 seconds.
Power is sent to the wheels via an eight-speed PDK and Porsche Traction Management (PTM) active all-wheel drive with Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus) including fully variable torque distribution and an electronically controlled rear differential lock.
A sports exhaust system with black tailpipes is standard, as is the Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) sports suspension that lowers the vehicle height by 10 mm, a lift system on the front axle, and LED matrix headlights including the Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus.
PCCB is also standard equipment, and the brake calipers of this PCCB are finished in black.
I still wear a watch
As is commonplace with Porsche limited edition models, a watch is also available exclusively for owners of the 911 Turbo 50 Years.
The 911 Turbo 50 Years Chronograph is equipped with the COSC-certified Porsche Design movement WERK 01.200 with flyback function. Like the car, the watch is limited to 1,974 pieces.
The black dial with Turbo Knight elements perfectly replicates the clock on the dashboard, and the strap is made of black vehicle leather with Turbo Knight decorative stitching and features a folding clasp.
The transparent case reveals a winding rotor in the same style as the wheels of the 911 Turbo 50, and the limited edition number engraved on the titanium housing corresponds to the vehicle's limited edition number.
It seems that this watch also comes in a special version that is combined with the Heritage Design Package, but there are no details provided, so I don't know for sure.
