Car and Driver tests Porsche Taycan Turbo GT with 0-60 mph time of 1.898 seconds

Posted: Posted:

In a test conducted by American media outlet Car and Driver, the 1,092 horsepower Porsche Taycan Turbo GT was found to be the fastest car in terms of acceleration from 0 to 60 mph (approximately 0-60 km/h).

The tires used were Pirelli P Zero Trofeo RS.

The Taycan Turbo GT's 0-96 km acceleration time (in tests conducted by the same media) is said to be faster than the previous top-ranked Ferrari SF90, with a top time of 1.898 seconds.

It's surprisingly fast, under two seconds.

This time is calculated by averaging the fastest runs in each direction to eliminate the effects of wind and other factors, and the Taycan achieved a time of 1.898 seconds in one direction and 1.910 seconds in the other direction.

What's even more surprising is that the Taycan Turbo used in this test was a model that did not come equipped with the lightweight option, the Weissach package.

If the Weissach package was added, the rear seats would be removed, a rear wing would be added, and many parts would be replaced with carbon fiber, resulting in a total weight reduction of approximately 75 kg.

The current Taycan is a four-seater model weighing 2,360 kg.

It would have been nice if they had tested it with the Taycan Turbo GT with the Weissach package!!

By the way, this test was measured in a format called "rollout," which is a measurement method that excludes the first foot (about 30 centimeters) of travel when measuring the test.

Therefore, it seems that the times recorded are sometimes 0.2 to 0.5 seconds faster than the actual time, but even so, at least at this point in time, other cars are also being measured during rollout, so there is no doubt that it is the fastest car in 0-60 mph acceleration.

In the 1990s, while an average economy car could do 0-60 mph in around 12 seconds, it was amazing that a sports car could do it in around 5 seconds, but nowadays, a standard Tesla Model 3 can achieve a time in the low 3 second range.

And now, the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT has recorded a new 0-96km/h acceleration time of under 2 seconds, so it will be exciting to see how Tesla competes against this time...or at least (laughs).
