Plans for three Cayenne powertrains
Porsche recently announced plans to offer three powertrains for the Cayenne over the next decade: internal combustion engine, hybrid and fully electric.
The following was announced:
- The fourth-generation Porsche Cayenne will be a fully electric model
- A rigorous testing program with camouflaged prototypes is already underway
- At the same time, the company is also developing powerful hybrid and internal combustion engine models.
- The Cayenne will be available with three powertrains through 2030 and beyond
- For over 20 years, the Cayenne has been a model that offers a wide range of qualities, including Porsche-like driving performance, excellent comfort in everyday driving, and excellent off-road capability.
- The future Cayenne will seamlessly continue this success story and will retain all the features that have been equipped on the model.
- Porsche AG CEO Oliver Blume said:
- The Cayenne has always defined the sports car in its segment, and the fourth-generation electric SUV will set the standard for the segment around 2025.
- At the same time, the company plans to offer a range of powerful and efficient internal combustion engine and hybrid models in the 2030s.
- The third-generation Cayenne will undergo further refinements and will be sold alongside the fully electric fourth-generation model.
- The current Cayenne generation underwent the biggest upgrade in Porsche history last year, and is set to undergo further development with significant technological investments.
- The development will focus on improving the efficiency of the powertrain, in particular the V8 engine developed by Porsche and built at the engine plant in Zuffenhausen.
- The twin-turbo engine will feature extensive technical measures to ensure it complies with future legislation.
Development goal: to set new standards in the SUV segment
- Porsche is actively involved in electromobility
- Oliver Blume says:
- Our product strategy will enable more than 80% of new vehicles to be fully electric by 2030.
- However, this will depend on customer demand and the development of electromobility in different regions around the world.
- The introduction of the fourth generation of the best-selling Cayenne is a completely new development and is intended to make a major contribution to the expansion of electromobility at Porsche.
- The fully electric Cayenne is based on the comprehensive development of the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) with 800V architecture. Michael Steiner, Porsche AG's Board Member for Research and Development, said:
- The flexibility of the PPE architecture allows the integration of the latest technologies in the areas of high-voltage systems, powertrain and chassis.
- We are using the potential of electrification to take the Cayenne to a whole new level in many areas, such as driving performance.
- The development goals are Porsche's characteristic driving characteristics, as well as large-capacity, stable charging, high efficiency, and a high level of comfort and ease of everyday use.
Millions of kilometers of test driving still to come
- Following digital development and testing, as well as the first test drives on the test track at the development center in Weissach, the first camouflaged prototype of the fully electric Cayenne leaves the Porsche factory.
- Road testing, one of the most important milestones in the development process, has begun.
- Before the launch date, the prototype will have completed millions of test kilometres around the world in the most challenging climatic and terrain conditions.
- This ensures durability and reliability of the hardware, software and all vehicle functions in accordance with Porsche's high quality standards.
So, this is the camouflaged Cayenne that was unveiled at the same time as the announcement. It's difficult to remove the camouflage from the body (it's impossible because you can't see what's inside), but as always, I tried to remove the camouflage from the lights.
