The first commercially available 2-door EV Porsche is the 718 Boxster
It seems that the 983 Boxster will be the first commercially available two-door Porsche fully electric car.
This is what Porsche's Björn Förster, who was visiting Australia, said.
Mr. Björn Förster has been involved in electrical projects based on the 718 Cayman for many years, and he apparently went to Australia to exhibit the EV prototype Cayman GT4 ePerformance.
Apparently this is what was said there, but what he actually said was, ``We've already been touring the world with the GT4 ePerformance for nearly 18 months, and the EV Boxster will be coming soon,'' and ``If it were my company... "I think the bigger innovation is to have an open fully electric sports car, so I think they'll choose to bring out the open version first."
Therefore, even though this is the opinion of someone involved in Porsche's EV development, it cannot be said to be Porsche official yet, and I feel that it is also his personal opinion, so I cannot say that it is 100%.
However, it seems that there is no need to talk about this to the media, so at present there is a strong possibility that the EV Boxster will be announced before the EV Cayman (as for mass-produced cars) at Porsche.
Björn Förster also said that when the EV Boxster is announced, the base model will be announced first, in keeping with Porsche tradition, and other variations will follow.
Since it starts with a base model, and Björn Förster says that he would never build a race car based on a base model at this point, it's still too early to see a race-spec EV Boxster/Cayman. It is said that this will not happen for several years.
Will there ever be a day when EV718 Cayman/Boxster overtakes ICE911?
Björn Förster said, ``It's very easy to drive faster than a 911 with an electric car (unless the 911 is also an electric car)'' and ``We don't make cars to make them slower. (Currently) The EV Cayman GT4 is faster than a 911. We will never slow down an electric car just to create a proper hierarchy.''
I wonder if the day will come when the mass-produced EV718 will overtake the 911 (before the 911 became electric).
It seems that the battery system of the new EV718 model is expected to be stored behind the rear seats. Björn Förster continues:
"The balance, inertia and agility of the car will also be better."
"The GT4 ePerformance has a weight distribution of 52% on the front axle and 48% on the rear axle, which is almost 50:50 but not perfect. A perfect Porsche would have 58% on the rear, and now we are using that in a production car. I'm trying it out.''
I would like to look forward to the appearance of the EV Boxster or EV Cayman that will be commercially available.
