Porsche is reportedly cutting back on Taycan production due to slowing sales and a general decline in demand for electric vehicles.
The Taycan has been a strong sales performer for Porsche, with sales expected to exceed 40,000 units in 2023.
Still, reports from Germany say that, like many other electric vehicles, demand is declining because most people who wanted one in the first place have already bought one.
According to Germany's Stuttgarter Nachrichten newspaper, the Zuffenhausen factory where the Taycan is made expects to soon move to a single shift per day due to lower-than-expected demand.
Porsche is believed to be in negotiations with local labor unions and it is unlikely that any jobs will be lost as a result of the reduced shifts, but for now Porsche's public relations department has not commented on the matter.
By the way, in Germany, subsidies for electric cars are scheduled to be abolished at the end of 2023, but this is not thought to be a major factor in the decline in demand.
In Germany, EV sales are sluggish in the first half of 2024, down 16.41 TP1T.
Furthermore, with the rise of cheap Chinese-made EVs in the Chinese market, demand for the Taycan is steadily declining, and according to a German newspaper, the only Porsche that Chinese customers want is an ICE model, not an electric one.
The Taycan recently became a MY25 model, and it is expected that some customers still own this new model, which may help offset some of the decline in demand, but is production actually going to be reduced?
However, even though it is also an electric vehicle, it is said that the Macan EV will be a boost for Porsche, and it is also said that the Macan EV may become a best-selling item in China.
