Michelin Pilot Sport S5
Porsche and Michelin have announced that they have jointly developed a new tire specially designed for track driving in wet and cold conditions.
The new tires are called Michelin Pilot Sport S 5.

As the only point of contact between the car's structure and the road, tyres play a vital role in the car's operation and require precise configuration and adjustment of their components. For decades, Porsche has worked with carefully selected partners to develop tyres that are precisely adapted to the application of each Porsche vehicle and model.

Now announced are tires for the 992 generation Porsche 911 GT3 RS, which, as mentioned above, were developed in collaboration with Michelin and were specially developed for circuit driving in wet conditions.

These tires are circuit tires that can also be driven on public roads.
According to Andreas Preuninger, head of Porsche's GT car division,
"We are responding to the demands of our customers, particularly performance-oriented customers, who want to spend more time on the track during the spring and autumn."
It is said that these new tires will significantly extend the annual usage period of the GT3 RS, meaning that it will be possible to enjoy circuit driving and high-performance driving for a longer period of time.
For the Michelin Pilot Sport S5The "N" mark given to Porsche approved tiresWith.

Currently, there are four Michelin Porsche-approved tyres available for the Porsche 911 GT3 RS. The Pilot Sport S5 is the counterpart to the ultra-high-performance (UHP) Pilot Sport Cup 2 R and is establishing an entirely new tyre segment.
It is said to deliver an exceptional level of performance on the race tracks, which are made even more demanding by harsh weather conditions, but it is also suitable as an everyday tire, especially in countries with rainy and cool weather conditions.

Improved safety and faster lap times even in tough conditions
The following was announced about the new Pilot Sport S5:
- As part of the tire's development, test drivers have been carrying out countless testing miles at the Michelin development center in Ladoux, France, since 2022.
- Porsche brand ambassador Jörg Bergmeister will use his experience as a long-time works driver to help fine-tune the tires.
- The main development goal is to optimize aquaplaning characteristics
- The tread pattern is specially designed for wet conditions and features four large central grooves that are 7.4mm deep
- The tread depth has increased, resulting in a higher percentage of negative tread, allowing the tire to shed more water.
- This tire therefore improves vehicle stability and increases the aquaplaning speed, the speed at which the tire begins to lose contact with the road surface, according to Michelin tire developer Mathieu Greco.
- Stable contact with the road surface even when driving at high speeds

- A high silica content in the rubber compound provides better grip on wet surfaces and helps the tire reach operating temperature more quickly
- This tire performs best at temperatures between 5 and 15 degrees.
- In these conditions, the wet-weather tyre performs best at temperatures between 15 and 30 degrees, providing a level of grip and precision never before achieved with a Porsche-approved warm-weather UHP tyre.
- The tire heats up very quickly.
- Provides excellent levels of control and predictability when changing direction in wet conditions or cold weather

- The developers also improved the material composition and shape of the tyre carcass to optimise the contact patch both on straights and in corners.
- The result is a tire that provides a better sense of limits even in tough driving situations, increasing confidence in the vehicle's handling.
- On the 2.8 km wet "3bis" circuit at the Michelin Development Center, Michelin test drivers recorded lap times in the 911 GT3 RS that were more than 10 seconds faster than when the car was equipped with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 N0 tires.

- Extensive testing at the Nürburgring and in Portimao, Portugal, in dry weather and temperatures above 20 degrees Celsius has confirmed that the tyre performs well even outside of its primary operating range.
- Various tread designs were thoroughly tested to find the perfect balance between the front and rear axles.
- The result is optimal performance on wet roads, while also meeting the needs of track and everyday drivers in terms of tire precision, handling and driving stability on dry roads in warm weather.
- Another strength is its high abrasion resistance
- Approved for road use and meets all legal requirements regarding rolling resistance and noise levels

- The new wheels will initially be available for the Porsche 911 GT3 RS in 275/35 ZR 20 wheels for the front axles and 335/30 ZR 21 wheels for the rear axles.
- This tire is sold exclusively by Manthey

At the very end, they casually announce that these tires will be "sold exclusively by Mantai."
Just hearing that makes me think that it's quite out of my reach! (But anyway, I'll never need a tire like this (lol))
