Meeting with a future Porsche designer... I hope so

Posted: Posted:

The other day, I happened to have the opportunity to talk with a freshman university student who loves cars and dreams of working in a field related to car design in the future.

When I say that I had a chance to talk to him, it wasn't like we met at a Porsche event or anything. I just happened to be there with my daughter, and at that time I met him simply as the mother of my child.

We met on foot, so of course he doesn't know that I drive a Porsche.

By coincidence, the conversation turned to "What do you want to do in the future?" and he replied that he wanted to work in car design, and continued, "I've been very interested in Porsches lately."

And he said with great joy, "I recently learned about the history of Porsche and that the VW Beetle was also designed by Porsche..."

Seeing him talking happily about Porsche made me happy too, so I told him, "I like Porsches too." He replied, "Oh really?" and scrolled through the photos on his smartphone that he'd been saving for his own practice.

All of the works were wonderful and you could tell they were made with a lot of effort, but when I saw a picture of an engine (presumably an air-cooled Porsche) that he had done,

"Wow. I can't tell what model this is just by looking at it, but it definitely has a flat-six engine!"

I was so moved that I said, "Hey, you know this lady?!" the college student was like that (lol), and his eyes lit up in surprise.

Well, I guess it's unlikely that a mother walking around with her children would see a picture of an engine and say, "A flat-six engine, that's just like a Porsche" (laughs).

He wanted to do car-related design, so he was constantly studying drawing, design, and modeling, and this spring he enrolled in an art college to make his dream come true.

I was deeply moved by the sight of young people immersed in their favorite car designs, practicing and studying, even sparing time for fun, and talking about their dreams.

And in my heart, I even hoped that someday in the distant future, when a new Porsche would be announced, I would be able to meet him again and realize that there was a Japanese person on the Porsche design team.

Like Mr. Yamashita, who is a designer at Porsche AG, I would love to meet him again someday, working hard towards his dreams with the same passion I met that day, and Porsche...or even if the manufacturer changes along the way and it becomes a different manufacturer, I would like to meet him again as someone involved in some kind of product design.

I don't know if he'll remember our chance encounter that day until then, but I would like to greet him and say, "I'm the lady who was impressed by your flat-six engine back then."

People who have dreams and work hard to achieve them are truly wonderful.

I wanted to write this blog so that I can show it to him when we meet again someday.

I'm cheering you on from behind the scenes!

Oh, the photo in between is completely unrelated to the content of the story and is my Carrera T. I thought it would be lonely to not have any photos in the text, so here are some self-indulgent photos, hehe.
