Now, for those of you who own a car, you will probably have received your automobile tax payment notice in May.
Our family was no exception and received a notice asking us to pay our automobile tax.
Thankfully, we now have multiple cars, so we try to pay for them all at the same time so we don't get confused about which ones we've paid for and which ones we haven't.
But this time.
No matter how long I wait, the tax notice for one car never arrives.
Of course, I would be grateful if it didn't arrive (lol), but I was afraid that if it hadn't arrived due to some mistake/mistake, I might end up saying later, "You haven't paid tax on this car!", so I spent my days waiting for the tax notice to arrive, hoping it would arrive soon.
This year's tax deadline is June 2nd. There isn't much time left.
So, why? I was wondering, but lo and behold, I understood.

What is that? I'm so happy! I didn't know that.
Tokyo has its own unique system in which plug-in hybrids and electric vehicles are exempt from taxes for five years.

According to the explanation on this site, the same thing that was applied to my car this time:ZEV The "Tax System to Promote the Introduction of Next-Generation Vehicles" is a system unique to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government that has been renamed from the previous "Tax System to Promote the Introduction of Next-Generation Vehicles," and ZEV stands for "Zero Emission Vehicle."
The new law applies to electric vehicles, fuel cell vehicles (hydrogen fuel), and plug-in hybrid vehicles that are registered for the first time by fiscal year 2025, and regardless of the model or whether they are for personal or commercial use, they will be exempt from tax on vehicle tax categories at the time of new registration and for the next five years.
The car tax is exempt for five years. What a good boy, the 296GTS!
