Porsche Club Utsunomiya Event @ Tsukuba Circuit Gymkhana Field
We have practiced steady circle skid control practice (= steady circle drift) at Tsukuba Circuit Gymkhana field for the past five times.
This practice is an event held by Porsche Club Utsunomiya about four times a year, and I participate as a guest member when there are vacancies. It's a place I'm really grateful for. Thank you.
On the fourth time I participated, I was able to drift around a steady circle in a Porsche 911 for the first time, and on the fifth time I was able to do three laps (although I still can't do it every time, Somehow I managed to reach a level where I was able to do it ^^).
Then, in December 2023, I went to Tsukuba Circuit Gymkhana again to participate for the 6th time.
We started preparations not long after the sun had risen, and the temperature at this time was 0 degrees. It's quite cold.
When I ride in regular circles, circuits, or square training like this, I always use the black 991.2 base model Carrera (MY17).
My biggest goal is to understand the black Carrera that I love and cherish the most, and to enjoy it as much as possible together.
After everyone made preparations for watering and standing circles, we first had a meeting to exchange greetings, communications, precautions, etc., and then the event started.
On this day, there were three people who were participating in the steady circle practice for the first time, so they started with a classroom lesson.
This classroom lecture was something I also learned the first time (and several times after that), and it was very helpful.
Even if it is difficult to understand at first even if it is explained, the degree of understanding of skid control during practice will be completely different if you listen to it or not.
Each person has 3 minutes to practice driving. I still stick the kitchen timer in the middle of the PCM (lol).
Until last time, I had finally managed to get to the point where I could sometimes do 1 to 3 laps in a Porsche 911 by drifting, so this time I started practicing to further improve my accuracy.
crazy car wash
Today, I want to be able to control my beloved black Carrera so that no matter how many times I try, I can do about 3 laps normally.
With that in mind, I'm fully motivated.
Looking at the time, 9:11, I said to 911, ``I'll do my best today too.''
Do you try hard?
What do you strive for in addition to skid control?
Yes, I had other things to work on that day. it is.
The other thing I decided to do my best on that day other than drift practice was...
last timeI just had glass coating maintenance done at REVOLT Utsunomiya.Don't pollute the shiny black Carrera with well water!
My opponent(?) this time is the well water being sprinkled from the yellow water truck you can see in the background.
No, I love water sprinklers, and I can't help but worry about the yellow whale water sprinkler at the Tsukuba Circuit Gymkhana field because it's so old that it looks like it's about to fail, but for me today... The water in the sprinkler truck is your biggest enemy.
Today, I will definitely not pollute my black Carrera with well water! ! !
That's what I firmly vowed to do on this day.
that is.
"I wash my car every time I practice drifting for 3 minutes"
Yes, every time.
I washed my car after every 3 minutes of driving. picture? Are you stupid? No, I can't deny it...
When it comes to car washing, it's more like, ``It's winter and the temperature is low, so the water will dry slowly, so after driving, you can just lightly scrub the well water with tap water soaked in microfiber.''
I thought it would be easy, but when I tried this, it turned out to be quite difficult.
I had confirmed with the Tsukuba Circuit in advance that ``the water that comes out of the tap in the hand-washing area in the Gymkhana toilets is tap water, not well water,'' so I used tap water in the toilet after every 3 minutes of running. Soak it in water, return to the car, and flush, flush, flush.
As I was doing this, the cleaning lady who came to clean the toilet couldn't see me and said, ``Why don't you use a bucket? You can put it back here later, so if you want to use it, go ahead.'' She lent me the bucket. I did (tears). There was a god.
So, after every 3 minutes of running, I poured tap water into a borrowed bucket, returned to the car, and continued to wash the well water off the black Carrera. Repeat...
Furthermore, someone who saw me suddenly said something to me.
"Are the wheels okay?"
Wow.
it was.
I forgot, the wheels also got a deep brown stain that would never come off.
This is not the time to wash only the body! !
After that, I washed the body every 3 minutes and then polished the 4 wheels.
He's the ultimate idiot (lol).
People around me were wondering, ``Did that person come to practice steady circles? Or did he come to wash his car?'' Because I just wash it every time.
I was told, ``It seems like today you're either driving a car or carrying a bucket'' (lol).
The area around my car is dripping wet every time.
On this day, the temperature in the morning was 0 degrees, but as it approached noon the temperature rose to about 12 to 3 degrees, so I was washing my car every time and by the time I was halfway through, I was already feeling so hot that I took off my coat. I was rolling up my sleeves (lol).
At first, I was excited, thinking, ``I'll wash my car every time I drive!'' but by the afternoon, I was pretty exhausted. It's Sorya likely.
I wonder how many times I washed it just on this day. I should have counted...
911 skid control with fixed 2nd gear now possible
It was a day spent washing cars, but I also practiced drifting (well, that's the main thing).
At first, I was drifting in ``fixed 1st gear'' as I had always done.
This is because, originally, in the case of a 911, I had heard that ``drifting in 2nd gear is easier to control after the drift begins than in 1st gear,'' but in 2nd gear, the 911 was forced to ``first slide.'' I couldn't do the idea of ``getting it to start = leading to a drift start''.
So, I fixed 1st gear and used the power to start the drift, and then used 1st gear for skid control.
In fact, it seems to be more difficult to control it in 1st gear, so I was sometimes surprised and asked, ``Wait, you've been in 1st gear all this time?!''
It was difficult for me to practice in a situation where I had to control the car more delicately in 1st gear from the beginning until I was able to do it, but it may have been a good thing for me in the end.
However, in the future, I was told that it would be better to be able to control the 911 in 2nd gear in order to be able to control it more easily and continue drifting for a longer period of time, so on the way that day, I asked myself, ``How can I drive a 911 in 2nd gear?'' He taught me the theory of how to start sliding and take it to a drift.
Actually, the president of PC Utsunomiya taught me the theory from the beginning when I first started practicing drifting, but it was still difficult for me to understand the theory because I couldn't do anything at that time. It was impossible to actually try it.
This time, now that I am able to control the 911 a little in 1st gear, I was once again taught the theory and what to do (this time by another instructor). I feel like my level of understanding has increased even more than before.
My level of understanding is so low that if I were to be asked to re-explain a theory I had heard, I would not be able to explain it at all (lol), but I would still keep in mind the graphs you taught me and say, ``When I get to this point, I realized that this is the best way to do it, and by actually trying it out in 1st gear, I was able to get a feel for it.
If I write this down for myself so I don't forget later, it means, ``Start the turn slowly, accelerate a little at the end, and at the moment when the rear feels itchy, turn the steering wheel in the opposite direction to the direction of travel to start the 911. The method of “let it happen.”
Well, at first, when you accelerate (for example, when turning counterclockwise) and feel the rear end come out, you turn the steering wheel to the right. The car is moving to the left.
It made no sense at all.
However, if you listen to and understand the theory and do it at the right timing, you can really start drifting by turning the steering wheel in the opposite direction.
And, with this method, the 911 doesn't slide like it would with power in 1st gear, but it feels like the 911 starts to slide with a "swoosh" sound.
Impressed.
After getting a feel for it in 1st gear, I tried 2nd gear and was able to drift start the 911 in 2nd gear for the first time, and at that moment I was nothing but impressed.
My biggest accomplishment that day was being able to drift in 2nd gear in a Porsche 911 for the first time. Next time, I would like to practice drifting in 2nd gear, which I am not used to yet.
Porsche Club Utsunomiya: 20th regular circle event commemorative event
This day's regular circle event was also a memorable occasion for Porsche Club Utsunomiya.
Apparently this was the 20th time since PC Utsunomiya started this regular circle event.
As for the perfect attendance award who participated in all 20 events...I really missed it, but there was no one there. The person who participated the most was 19 times. No, I only made a mistake once. It would be such a shame! !
Since it was the 20th anniversary, there was also a game-like event held on this day, which is not usual.
The content is a game of whether each participant can accomplish the mission assigned to them on that day.
For experienced participants, the challenge was ``Once you start drifting, drift continuously for 3 minutes from that point, and do so in a clockwise direction.''
The theme for me was ``Drift 2 consecutive laps or 1 lap twice within 3 minutes.''
This, that.
Those who are good at it usually achieve things like 3 minute drifts in their regular practice. And I also thought that if I were okay with ``running one lap twice within 3 minutes,'' I would be able to do that normally these days.
But, you know, when it comes to the actual performance in front of everyone watching, ``Let's start the challenge!'' I was so nervous that I couldn't complete the challenge.
I'm so mentally weak that I can't even do one lap twice (lol).
In the end, on this day, the three participants, who were participating for the first time, were at their strongest mentally and completed the challenge, while the other regular members all failed in the challenge.
Interesting ^^ Well, it was fun. It's nice to do something like this sometimes.
Lastly, another instructor said, ``Even if you can do it normally, if the situation changes, you may not be able to do it.It is important to always maintain a calm mind.'' In my case, I'm a crazy person who repeats the process of running with a bucket and washing the car every 3 minutes, so I'm far from normal, and I can't help but feel that I still have a long way to go. I laughed. n/a.
After the 20th commemorative challenge game is over, we will return to each steady circle practice as usual.
In the afternoon, we practiced 2-speed drifting and had fun.
On this day, I felt like I was able to understand more about Kuro Carrera, so it was a very happy and fulfilling day.
Finally, just before the end of the run, I went to the final car wash. At the end, it was a bit of a serious car wash. What do you do until the very end when you are alone?
The next day, I woke up with a pain in my arm that was sore that it was already completely dry.It was a day spent washing the car, but it was all worth it, and the black Carrera remained sparkling clean. ! !
Furthermore, every time I washed the wheels, I took care to wash the small parts little by little, including the grooves, so it was a miracle that when I left the car, it was cleaner than when I arrived (lol) ).
I found out that washing your car every 3 minutes is a lot harder than you think, and it's inevitable that people around you will think you're crazy and treat you like a pervert, so don't do it too often. is not recommended.
However, if you don't want to leave ion deposits on your car as a countermeasure against well water, I think this "every time car wash" is the most effective.
At the beginning of my drift practice, I had a hard time controlling the 911, no matter how detailed the explanations or even when I was a passenger, but he never gave up on me and continued to teach me and let me practice. Somehow I was able to get to where I am today.
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to everyone at Porsche Club Utsunomiya and everyone involved. Thank you for always having a great time.
We hope to see you again in 2024 ^^
