75th anniversary of Porsche's arrival in the UK
2026 marks the 75th anniversary of Porsche's first arrival in the UK.
That aside, the Porsche 911 Carrera T has been awarded the Sports Car of the Year award at the British media outlet "What Car?"
What's more, the Cayenne S won Best Sports SUV and the Macan S won Best Premium SUV to Drive.
The year celebrating 75 years of Porsche sales in the UK has begun with these three awards, and Porsche dealers in the UK appear to be extremely pleased.
The first Porsche to debut in the UK was the 356, which was unveiled at the Earls Court Motor Show in London in October 1951.
This is where Porsche's history in the UK began, and it has now grown to become Porsche's fourth largest market in the world.
Porsche 911 Carrera T: Sports Car of the Year
This year's Sports Car of the Year award went to the 911 Carrera T, marking the sixth consecutive time that Porsche has won in this category; last year's winner was the 718 Cayman GTS 4.0.
The Porsche 911 Carrera T is equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission and a sports exhaust system, and is a model that emphasizes the "emotional engine feel" and "driving experience that allows you to concentrate on driving," which Porsche has long valued.
Frank Moser, Vice President of the 718 and 911 Model Lines at Porsche, said:
"The 911 Carrera T is a model based on the theme of 'focusing on the essentials'. The 'T' stands for Touring, and at Porsche, its origins date back to the 911 T homologation model that appeared in 1968. Pure driving pleasure, agile handling, an impressive sound, and a focus on the essentials are the hallmarks of this rear-wheel drive sports car."
Porsche Cayenne S: Best Sports SUV
The current-generation Cayenne features an advanced digital display and control concept, new chassis technology with a revised suspension design, and more powerful engines, including an improved plug-in hybrid powertrain that allows for up to approximately 90 km of electric driving range.
The new model, which is said to be arriving in showrooms this summer, will also include a fully electric version.
This time, What Car? said, "The Porsche Cayenne is a car that makes you wonder how something so tall and heavy can handle so well."
What Car? says their favorite is the 4.0-liter V8 S model, which they praise as providing an intuitive experience when you step on the accelerator more than fast enough, and that this experience is further enhanced when you add the Sport Chrono Package.
Porsche Macan S: Best Premium SUV to Drive
Regarding the Macan S, which also won an award, What Car? highlighted the appeal of the V6-engine Macan S, its everyday usability and luxury, commenting, "Porsche has the rare ability to inject sports car DNA into SUVs. Its precise, ideally weighted steering and impeccable stability make it superior to its rivals."
Winning three top-tier cars is a great start to the year as we celebrate 75 years of Porsche in the UK.
It seems that a Porsche-related festival will also be held at Silverstone on June 20-21, 2026, and it looks like 2026 will be an exciting year with various Porsche events in the UK.
