The Vice President of 911/718 talks about the 992.2 911 Carrera
I saw an article in the foreign media about a question asked of Frank Moser, vice president of the 911/718 model line, about manual cars at the press conference for the 992.2 Porsche 911 Carrera and GTS, so I took a look at it.
For now, excluding GT cars such as the GT3 and special models, the question seems to be about whether there is a possibility of making a manual transmission model for the 992.2 Carrera model.
The first thing Frank said was that a manual GTS would never be realized. This was something everyone already knew, and it felt like that was confirmed.
This is because there is a PDK with an electric motor, so it is not possible to convert the hybrid model into a manual transmission.
So what about the Carrera and Carrera S?
Frank's answer to that was, "We have good ideas." Hmm? You have some good ideas?
What is that answer? (lol)
However, the media has suggested that although the 3.0-liter engine in this Carrera has been updated with a turbo borrowed from the old GTS and an intercooler borrowed from the 911 Turbo, the basic parts of the engine remain the same, so it may be possible to equip it with the same 7-speed manual transmission as the 992.1. They seem to be excited about this subtle answer that "we have a good idea."
"Give us a little more time and we'll see what happens," Moser said.
But it's true that if we were to say "Yes, it will be released," the excitement would be lost right before the announcement, and conversely, if we said "It won't be released," people would probably say things like "It's a hybrid!?"
The conclusion is that Porsche can't give us a clear answer before the announcement.
It seems likely that manual transmission will be available not only for the Carrera S but also for the Carrera T, so we look forward to the announcement of further models.
The embargo period (embargo) for the already announced late-model 992 Carreras will end in early July 2024 (July 9th in the US), so I'm looking forward to seeing reviews of the 992.2 coming out soon.
