ABB FIA Formula E World Championship Round 5: Tokyo E-Prix

Porsche vehicles were unveiled on March 28th ahead of Formula E, which will be held in Odaiba, Tokyo on March 30th, 2024.

The car is a fully electric ``Porsche 99X Electric Race Car'' developed at the Weissach Research and Development Center, and has a new livery to celebrate the long and successful partnership between Porsche and Tag Heuer.

The coloring is a visual homage to Japanese street art and car culture, including the fact that the race will be held in Tokyo, which is internationally recognized as the city of neon signs.

Of course, it not only represents Tokyo/Japan, but also emphasizes the dynamism of Formula E and the forward-looking trends represented by the world's first electric racing car racing series.

Both Porsche and Nissan were close. If Nissan had taken the lead at the start, could they have won in terms of electricity?
The brakes on both the front and rear are now motor-regenerative only. At first, both the front and rear were disc brakes, but the GEN2 only had rear brakes. (Is Brembo angry that they lost their jobs?)

I knew what the race would be like, but it just felt like it wasn't as exciting as I'd expected.
Like F1, in urban areas, the layout is stop-and-go with straight lines and small corners, so the driver's skills are not utilized, and it is difficult to overtake. There is no brake competition because the car lifts before the corners considering the electricity consumption. The race distance is also short, about 45 minutes.

And the withdrawal of Audi, BMW, and Mercedes makes the future clear. They all say that the ROI is too bad, and that EVs are meaningless for either racing or commercial vehicles. The fact that it can be watched for free on terrestrial and BS channels speaks to Formula E's tough position.

I don't like EVs, but Porsche and other German manufacturers have allocated resources to EVs, which has affected ICE vehicles. China, which is strongly connected to Japan economically even though we are not on good terms, is suffering from a double real estate and EV recession, so Japan is beginning to be greatly affected.
We need EVs to do their best too.

  As for the race, I was excited and felt a certain sense of excitement, but I also had various thoughts in mind, such as "With a course this narrow, it seems the only way to overtake someone is to make a mistake, rather than using skill," and "Are they driving while conserving their battery power?"
  
  In fact, the race was originally scheduled to finish with 33 laps, but two more laps were added at the end, but at the end of the 35 laps, most of the cars had 0.% of battery remaining. That's perfect, and amazing, but does that mean they were saving battery towards the end to account for the extra laps?
  
  Racing while considering electricity consumption is one of the best parts of EV racing and may be what determines the winner, but personally I would like to see races where you can always use full power whenever you want without worrying about the remaining battery life.
