The world's best driving road in Romania: Transfagarasan
Many car enthusiasts are probably familiar with the British TV show "Top Gear."
There is a road in Romania that was previously featured in this program as "the best driving road in the world." That road is the Transfagarasan.
Here's what Top Gear was like back then:
The Transfagarasan Highway isIt has been open for about eight months. The altitude is 2,042 meters, and it is the second drivable mountain road in Romania.
★Additional Note (2024.9.13)★
I will correct it based on your comment. The Transfagarasan Highway is closed for about 8 months of the year, but it is only open for about 4 months of the year!
By the way, another famous road with the highest altitude in Romania is the Transalpina.
Jeremy from Top Gear described the Transfagarasan as "an unbroken grey ribbon - a symbol of automotive perfection," and it really does look like one.
This time, the Transfagarasan Highway was temporarily rented out for private use, with approximately 200 people and over 120 Porsches occupying the Transfagarasan Highway.
The reason so many Porsches gathered on this road was to celebrate two things at the same time, the first of which was the 15th anniversary of the founding of the local Porsche club.
And the other one is to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Transfagarasan Highway.
A local Porsche club received permission to close the 151-kilometer-long Transfagarasan pass to the public for a few hours, during which time Porsches of various generations and models took to the pass.
Overseas Porsche clubs are not closed off, so even if it's a Porsche club celebration, participation is not limited to Porsche club members; Porsche owners in neighboring countries (including participants from as far away as France) can also join in and enjoy the event together.
I think it was a great memory for many Porsche owners to gather on the world's best driving road and enjoy driving together.
The release of an Eastern European limited edition model has also been decided.
At this gathering, the new Porsche 911 Carrera 4 GTS (hybrid) was officially unveiled to everyone in attendance, and it was also announced that Porsche will be officially releasing a limited edition model to celebrate the Eastern European market.
The limited edition special model will be based on the new 911 Carrera 4 GTS and will be called "Tribute to Transfagarasan."
No details have been released yet about what kind of car it will be, but it is said that the exterior will be some kind of special edition by Sonderwunsch.
